Haugsbygda, Møre Og Romsdal
Haugsbygda (or ''Gursken'') is a village in Sande Municipality in Møre og Romsdal county in the western part of Norway. The village is situated on a narrow strip of relatively flat land along the Gursken fjord on the west side of the island of Gurskøya. Gursken Church is located in the eastern part of the village. Neighboring villages are Gjerde (to the north), Gurskebotn (to the east), and Larsnes (to the south). The village has a population (2024) of 304 and a population density of . Economy Myklebust Verft is the largest employer in the village. There is a primary school in the village called Gursken Oppvekstsenter. A grocery store is located nearby at the end of the fjord. Gursken Church
Gursken Church () is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Sande Municipality in Møre og Romsdal county, Norway. It is located in the village of Haugsbygda on the island of Gurskøya. It is one of the two churches for the Gursken parish which is part of the Søre Sunnmøre prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Møre. The white, wooden church was built in a long church design in 1919 using plans drawn up by the architect . The church seats about 270 people. History The parish received permission to build a church in Gursken in 1918. The parish hired the Swedish architect , who is best known for having designed a large number of tenements in Kristiania (now Oslo) in the 1890s. The wooden long church was built in 1918-1919. Jan Åge Fjørtoft (born 10 January 1967) is a Norwegian former professional footballer. A powerful centre forward with goalscoring ability, he played professionally in Norway, Austria, England and Germany. In total, he scored 308 goals in 614 games in these four countries. He made 71 appearances for the Norwegian National Team, captaining the squad in 15 of them, and scored 20 goals for the Norway national team. Fjord
In physical geography, a fjord (also spelled fiord in New Zealand English; ) is a long, narrow sea inlet with steep sides or cliffs, created by a glacier. Fjords exist on the coasts of Antarctica, the Arctic, and surrounding landmasses of the northern and southern hemispheres. Gurskøya is an island in Møre og Romsdal county, Norway. Settlements The island is shared by Sande Municipality and Herøy Municipality. The villages of Haugsbygda, Gjerdsvika, Larsnes, Leikong and Moldtustranda are located on the island. The southern part of the island was historically part of the old Rovde Municipality.
