Has Anybody Seen My Gal
''Has Anybody Seen My Gal?'' is a 1952 American comedy film distributed by Universal-International, directed by Douglas Sirk, and stars Piper Laurie, Rock Hudson, Charles Coburn, and Gigi Perreau. It is loosely based upon the Eleanor Porter novel ''Oh Money! Money!''. Set in the 1920s, the film leans heavily on period detail, such as flappers, the Charleston and raccoon coats. It is named for the jazz song " Has Anybody Seen My Gal?" which was a hit for The California Ramblers during the 1920s. Though the song is sung during the movie, its lyrics have no particular relation to the plot. Eleanor Porter
Eleanor Emily Hodgman Porter (December 19, 1868 – May 21, 1920) was an American novelist. She was best known as the creator of the ''Pollyanna'' series of books, starting with ''Pollyanna'' (1913), which were a popular phenomenon. Biography Eleanor Emily Hodgman was born in Littleton, New Hampshire, on December 19, 1868, the daughter of Llewella French ( Woolson) and Francis Fletcher Hodgman. She was trained as a singer, attending the New England Conservatory for several years. In 1892 she married John Lyman Porter and relocated to Massachusetts, after which she began writing and publishing her short stories and, later, novels. Soda jerk (or soda jerker) is an American term used to refer to a person—typically a young man—who would operate the soda fountain in a restaurant, preparing and serving carbonated drink, soda drinks and ice cream sodas. The drinks were made by mixing flavored syrup, carbonated water, and occasionally Malted milk, malt powder over either ice or a few scoops of ice cream. The drink would then be served in a tall glass with a long-handled spoon, most commonly known as a "Iced tea spoon, soda spoon", and drinking straws. George Vincent Homeier (October 5, 1930 – June 25, 2017), known professionally as Skip Homeier, was an American actor who started his career at the age of eleven and became a child star. Lawrence Wheaton Gates (September 24, 1915December 12, 1996) was an American actor. His notable roles include H.B. Lewis on daytime's ''Guiding Light'' and Doc Baugh in the film version of ''Cat on a Hot Tin Roof'' (1958). The California Ramblers
The California Ramblers were an American jazz group that recorded hundreds of songs for many different record labels throughout the 1920s. Four members of the band –Red Nichols, Jimmy Dorsey, Tommy Dorsey, and Adrian Rollini - went on to front big bands in later decades. The band was formed in 1921 by banjoist Ray Kitchenman. Its members were from Ohio but chose the name California Ramblers. The band was instantly successful and were one of the most prolific recording groups in the 1920s. In late 1924 the Ramblers signed a contract with Columbia Records and then, in conjunction with their manager Ed Kirkeby, agreed to waive all royalties to Columbia for the right to record for other companies under pseudonyms. "Five Foot Two, Eyes of Blue (Has Anybody Seen My Girl?)" is an American popular song that achieved its greatest popularity in the 1920s. As of January 1, 2021, the song has fallen into the public domain. Title The song was copyrighted on October 19, 1925 as "Five foot two, eyes of blue; has anybody seen my girl" The shorter form of the title, "Five Foot Two, Eyes of Blue", has been used since the first release of the song and appears to have become the most common form. However "Five Foot Two, Eyes of Blue (Has Anybody Seen My Girl)" with brackets was on the label of Gene Austin's 1926 hit version and is a common alternative (often without a question mark, as on Austin's record and in the 1925 copyright).
