Harrington Athletics Village
The Harrington Athletics Village is a sports complex located on the Brighton Campus at Boston College in Boston, Massachusetts, United States. The complex currently consists of the Eddie Pellagrini Diamond, which is home to the Boston College Eagles baseball team; the Boston College Softball Field, which is home to the softball team; and the Pete Frates Center, which is an indoor practice facility and hospitality area for the baseball and softball teams. History Boston College acquired the lands of the Brighton Campus from the Archdiocese of Boston between 2004 and 2007. In the spring of 2004, Boston College began setting the institution's goals for the coming years. Included in the plans were the recently acquired Brighton lands, which called for a 1,500-seat baseball stadium, a 500-seat softball stadium, two intramural fields, and a field house. Eddie Pellagrini Diamond
Eddie Pellagrini Diamond is a baseball stadium at the Harrington Athletics Village located in Boston College in Boston, Massachusetts, United States. History Boston College constructed the new Eddie Pellagrini Diamond as part of an effort to improve the facilities of its athletic programs. The Board of Trustees deemed the previous Shea Field to be inadequate for the Atlantic Coast Conference standards and immediately launched plans for a new facility. The field was built on land which belonged to St. John's Seminary before being purchased by Boston College between 2004 and 2007. The Brighton Baseball Field was slated to open on March 13, 2018, in Boston College's home opener against Holy Cross but was canceled due to a nor'easter. Artificial Turf
Artificial turf is a surface of synthetic fibers made to look like natural grass, used in sports arenas, residential lawns and commercial applications that traditionally use grass. It is much more durable than grass and easily maintained without irrigation or trimming, although periodic cleaning is required. John Harrington (baseball)
John Leo Harrington (born July 12, 1936) is an American retired business manager and former executive in Major League Baseball (MLB). He was president of the Boston Red Sox from 1987 through 2001, also acting as CEO during much of the time the Red Sox were owned by the JRY Trust (1992–2001). Early life and career Harrington graduated from Boston College in 1957, and received his MBA there in 1966. After college, he was an officer in the U.S. Navy, then worked for both the General Accounting Office and NASA. He eventually became an accounting professor at Boston College until 1970, where he was hired by Joe Cronin, president of the American League, to be the league's Controller (accounting), controller. The UMass Minutemen are the athletic teams that represent the University of Massachusetts Amherst; strictly speaking, the ''Minutemen'' nickname applies to men's teams and athletes only — women's teams and athletes are known as ''Minutewomen''. The 2017–18 North American winter saw weather patterns across North America that were very active, erratic, and protracted, especially near the end of the season, resulting in widespread snow and cold across the continent during the winter.
