Handball at the Pan American Games began at the 1987 edition in Indianapolis, United States for both men and women.Due a lack of teams, the 1991 edition of the Pan American Games, however, held only a men's handball competition. Argentina are the current men's champion, winning their second consecutive (and third overall) gold at the 2023 edition. Meanwhile, Brazil has won the last seven editions of the women's tournament. 1987 Pan American Games
The 1987 Pan American Games, officially known as the X Pan American Games, was a major international multi-sport event held in Indianapolis, Indiana, United States, on August 7–23, 1987. Over 4,300 athletes from 38 countries in the Americas competed in 297 events in 30 sports, earning 1,015 medals. Events were held at 23 venues in and around Indianapolis. The official mascot for the games was Amigo, a green parrot. Host city selection Santiago, Chile, was originally named the host of the tenth Pan American Games, but it withdrew in 1983 due to political and financial problems. Quito, Ecuador, was named to replace Santiago, but it also withdrew, in late 1984. Desperate, the Pan American Sports Organization (PASO) held a new election. Handball At The 2003 Pan American Games
The Handball Tournament at the 2003 Pan American Games took place at Handball Hall in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. There was two competitions with one each for each gender. Cuba was the defending champion in the men's while Brazil were the defending champion in the women. The tournament took place between August 2 to 11 with the winning sides of both the men’s and women’s tournament will directly qualify for the 2004 Olympic Handball Tournaments. That nation would be Brazil who would win both tournaments over Argentina. Handball At The 2019 Pan American Games
Handball competitions at the 2019 Pan American Games in Lima, Peru, were held from July 24 (two days before the 2019 Pan American Games opening ceremony, opening ceremony) to August 5. The venue for the competition is the Sports Centre Hall 1 located at the Videna cluster. The venue also hosted Judo at the 2019 Pan American Games, judo. A total of eight men's and eight women's teams (each consisting of up to 14 athletes) competed in each tournament. This means a total of 224 athletes are competed. Handball competitions at the 2015 Pan American Games in Toronto were held from July 16 to 25 at the Direct Energy Centre (Exhibition Centre in Hall B). Due to naming rights the arena was known as the latter for the duration of the games. A total of eight men's and women's teams competed in each respective tournament.
