Hakluyt & Company is a British strategic advisory firm. The company is headquartered in London. Hakluyt was founded by former officials of the British Secret Intelligence Service (MI6). The company has recruited several former British spies and journalists from ''The Financial Times''. The name of the company comes from the geographer Richard Hakluyt. The firm is chaired by Paul Deighton, and the other members of the board include managing partner Thomas Ellis, Paul Dimitruk, Don Viera, and Jean Tomlin. Richard Hakluyt
Richard Hakluyt (; 1553 – 23 November 1616) was an English writer. He is known for promoting the British colonization of the Americas, English colonization of North America through his works, notably ''Divers Voyages Touching the Discoverie of America'' (1582) and ''The Principal Navigations, Voyages, Traffiques and Discoveries of the English Nation'' (1589–1600). Hakluyt was educated at Westminster School and Christ Church, Oxford. Between 1583 and 1588 he was chaplain and secretary#Origin, secretary to Sir Edward Stafford (diplomat), Edward Stafford, English ambassador at the French court. Richard Hakluyt (born by 1531 – died 1591), of the Middle Temple, London and Eyton in Leominster, Herefordshire, was an English barrister, a cousin of his more famous namesake. In 1558 Hakluyt was briefly a Member of the Parliament of England for Leominster. Hakluyt Island (, ) is an island in Baffin Bay in northwest Greenland. The uninhabited island is located off the west coast of Northumberland Island, and is part of the Avannaata municipality. It is a designated Important Bird Area and a regional Key Biodiversity Area.
