Catherine Grace Godwin
Catherine Grace Godwin (25 December 1798 – 1845) was a Scottish novelist, amateur painter and poet. Biography Catherine Grace Garnett was born in Glasgow on 15 December 1798. Her mother, Catherine Grace Cleveland, died in childbirth. Her father, Dr. Thomas Garnett, devastated by the loss of his wife died in 1802. Godwin and her elder sister were brought up by a friend of their mother, Mary Worboys, in the village of Barbon near Kirkby Lonsdale in Westmoreland. She began painting and writing poetry in earnest when she was fifteen but she did not publish any work until 1854. The book allowed her to become a correspondent and eventually meet William Wordsworth. She published a romance titled ''Reine Canziani'' but she did not use her name on the cover. She did publish her best known work ''The Wanderer's Legacy and other poems'' in 1828 which she dedicated to Wordsworth. Paul Godwin
Paul Godwin (1902–1982) was a violinist and the leader of a popular German dance orchestra in the 1920s and 30s. Biography Paul Godwin (b. Pinchas Goldfein) was born on 28 March 1902 in Sosnowitz (Russian Empire; now Poland). Early recordings on the POLYPHON label gave the name "Tanz-Orchester Goldfein". He studied the violin at the Warsaw Conservatory under Stanisław Barcewicz. At the age of 20 he formed his own dance band in Berlin. Between 1926 and 1933 his orchestra '' Tanz-Orchester Paul Godwin'' recorded a many records for European labels, namely Berliner Gramophone. The band also backed many singers recording at the time and performed in various styles including foxtrots, waltzes, tangos, polkas. Parke Godwin (February 28, 1816 – January 7, 1904) was an American journalist associated with New York. Biography Godwin was born on February 28, 1816, in Paterson, New Jersey. His father Abraham Godwin was a Lieutenant in the War of 1812, and his grandfather Abraham Godwin a Fife Major in the American Revolution. He graduated from Princeton University in 1834, studied law, and was admitted to the bar of Kentucky, but did not practice. Parke Godwin (January 28, 1929 – June 19, 2013) was an American writer. He won the World Fantasy Award for Best Novella in 1982 for his story "The Fire When It Comes". He was a native of New York City, where he was born in 1929. He was the grandson of Harry Post Godwin. Mary Godwin (1887–1960) was a British oil painter, water colourist and etcher, who often chose landscapes, interiors, and figures as subjects. She studied at the Women’s Department of King’s College with John Byam Shaw, and at Westminster Technical Institute with Walter Sickert and Harold Gilman. She was influenced by the Camden Town Group, and joined its successor, The London Group (LG) in 1914. Her early works were considered radical, challenging the traditionalism of the Royal Academy of Arts. In spite of severe criticism, she persisted in establishing herself as a modernist artist. By the 1920s and 1930s she was widely recognized for the quality of her work. She showed her works consistently from 1914 to 1960, a sustained career of almost half a century. George Stanley Godwin
George Stanley Godwin (1889–1974) was an English writer of fiction and non-fiction books. Childhood and youth George S. Godwin was born in London, England, the youngest boy of a large family, and was only three years old when his father died. He was educated at boarding schools. Failing his studies at college he spent a couple of years in Germany. After returning to England Godwin reportedly worked briefly for a German bank in England. In the spring of 1909 he was admitted to membership of the Middle Temple and started studying law. His mother died in 1910. Gail Godwin (born June 18, 1937) is an American novelist and short story writer. Godwin has written 14 novels, two short story collections, three non-fiction books, and ten libretti. Her primary literary accomplishments are her novels, which have included five best-sellers and three finalists for the National Book Award. Most of her books are realistic fiction novels that follow a character's psychological and intellectual development, often based on themes taken from Godwin's own life. Godwin was born in Birmingham, Alabama, but raised mostly in Asheville, North Carolina by her mother and grandmother. Frank Godwin (23 June 1917 – 6 September 2012) was an English film producer, best known for the film ''Woman in a Dressing Gown''. Born to a theatrical family, Godwin initially worked as an accountant and joined Gainsborough Studios in 1943. In 1956, Godwin established a film production company with film director J. Lee Thompson and writer Ted Willis. They made two films for Associated British Picture Corporation: the award-winning ''Woman in a Dressing Gown'' (1957) and '' No Trees in the Street'' (1959). Francis Godwin (October 20, 1889 – August 5, 1959) was an American illustrator and comic strip artist, notable for his strip '' Connie'' and his book illustrations for ''Treasure Island'', ''Kidnapped'', ''Robinson Crusoe'', ''Robin Hood'' and ''King Arthur''.
