German Submarine U-36 (S186)
''U-36'' (S186) is a Type 212A submarine of the German Navy. She is the sixth ship of the class to enter service. She was laid down in August 2008 by Howaldtswerke, Kiel, launched in February 2013 and commissioned on 10 October 2016. She is under the patronage of the town of Plauen, in Saxony. The commissioning ceremony took place at Eckernförde in the presence of the Deputy Inspector of the Navy and Commander of the Fleet and Support Staff, Vice-Admiral Rainer Brinkmann, the Minister of the Interior and Federal Affairs of the State of Schleswig-Holstein, Stefan Studt, the head of the Schleswig-Holstein State Chancellery Thomas Losse-Müller, and the commander of '' Einsatzflottille 1'' Jan Christian Kaack. Type 212 Submarine
The German Type 212 class (German: U-Boot-Klasse 212 A), also Italian ''Todaro'' class, is a diesel-electric submarine developed by Howaldtswerke-Deutsche Werft AG (HDW) for the German and Italian navies. It features diesel propulsion and an additional air-independent propulsion (AIP) system using Siemens proton exchange membrane (PEM) compressed hydrogen fuel cells. The submarines can operate at high speed on diesel power or switch to the AIP system for silent slow cruising, staying submerged for up to three weeks with little exhaust heat. The system is also said to be vibration-free, extremely quiet and virtually undetectable. Type 212 is the first fuel cell propulsion system equipped submarine series. The (English: 1st Submarine Squadron) is a submarine squadron of the German Navy. It is based at Eckernförde, Schleswig-Holstein, and forms part of '' Einsatzflottille 1'', headquartered in Kiel. Jan Christian Kaack (born 24 December 1962) is a ''Vizeadmiral'' of the German Navy and as of March 11th, 2022 Inspector of the Navy. Service Kaack joined the navy in October 1982 and was initially assigned as a navigator to ''7. Schnellbootgeschwader''. He began officer training at the Naval Academy Mürwik, Flensburg in October 1983, graduating in September 1984. From October 1984 to December 1987 he studied economics and organisational science at the University of the Bundeswehr Hamburg, and in January 1988 began specialised training in surface warfare at the Naval Warfare School at Kappeln, completing the course in March 1989. ''Einsatzflottille 1'' (EinsFltl 1 or EF 1) is one of the three brigade-level units of the German Navy, in addition to ''Einsatzflottille 2'' and the Naval Air Command. It is based in Kiel, Schleswig-Holstein, and is under the head of the Navy Command, based in Rostock. Thomas Losse-Müller (born 3 April 1973) is a German politician. He is a member of the Social Democratic Party of Germany and Leader of his Party in the Landtag of Schleswig-Holstein. Career Between 1992–1999, Losse-Müller studied Economics at the University of Cologne. He went on to study Development Economics at the School of Oriental and African Studies. Rainer Maria Brinkmann (born 3 March 1958) is a ''Vizeadmiral'' of the German Navy, and the current Deputy Inspector of the Navy. He previously served in fast attack craft units, and in staff positions, and has a degree in education from the University of the Bundeswehr Hamburg. Military career Brinkmann joined the German Navy as an enlisted member in 1976, serving on the deck (ship), deck crew of ships in the 7th Fast Attack Squadron (''7. Schnellbootgeschwader'') and the ''Gorch Fock (1958), Gorch Fock''. In 1977 he decided to pursue a career as an officer, and after a year of officer training entered the University of the Bundeswehr Hamburg in 1978. Inspector Of The Navy
The Inspector of the Navy (german: Inspekteur der Marine) is the commander of the Navy of the modern-day German Armed Forces, the Bundeswehr. Since the various bodies responsible for the high command of the German Navy were merged in 2012, the Inspector has been based at the Navy Command at Rostock. Before then, the Inspector was head of the Naval Staff of the Ministry of Defence, based in Bonn. Both the Inspector and his deputy hold the rank of vice admiral (german: Vizeadmiral).
