George Cary (Georgia Politician)
George Cary (August 7, 1789 – September 10, 1843) was a United States representative from Georgia. He was born near Allens Fresh, Charles County, Maryland. He received a classical education and studied law. He was admitted to the bar and commenced practice in Frederick, Maryland. He was also engaged in agricultural pursuits. Cary moved to Appling, Georgia. He was a member of the Georgia House of Representatives 1819–1821. George Cary Eggleston
George Cary Eggleston (26 November 1839 – 14 April 1911) American author and brother of fellow author Edward Eggleston (1837–1902). Sons of Joseph Cary Eggleston and Mary Jane Craig. After the American Civil War he published a serialized account of his time as a Confederate soldier in ''The Atlantic Monthly''. These serialized articles were later collected and expanded upon and published under the title "A Rebel's Recollections." He coined the term champagne socialist in his 1906 book 'Blind Alleys' in which a character distinguishes the 'beer socialist' who "wants everybody to come down to his low standards of living" and the 'champagne socialist' who "wants everybody to be equal on the higher plane that suits him, utterly ignoring the fact that there is not enough champagne, green turtle and truffles to go round". George Cary (priest)
Doctor George Cary (1611–1680), Professor of Sacred Theology, lord of the manor of Clovelly, Devon, was Dean of Exeter between 1663 and 1680 (amongst other duties responsible for the maintenance and decoration of Exeter Cathedral). He was also Rector of Clovelly and of Shobrooke in Devon and Chaplain in Ordinary to King Charles II. He was one of the '' Worthies of Devon'' of John Prince (died 1723). Origins He was the second son and eventual heir of William Cary (1576–1652), lord of the manor of Clovelly in Devon, Justice of the Peace for Devon and Member of Parliament for Mitchell, Cornwall, in 1604, by his second wife Dorothy Gorges (died 1622), eldest daughter of Sir Edward Gorges of Wraxall, Somerset by his wife Dorothy Speke. George Cary (1859 – May 5, 1945), was a major American architect from New York State known for his designs for the Pan-American Exposition of 1901 in Buffalo, New York. Early life and education George Cary was born in 1859. He was one of seven children born to prominent Buffalo resident, Dr. Walter Cary (1818–1881) and Julia Cary (née Love). His siblings included: Trumbull Cary; Thomas Cary; Charles Cary, who in 1879 married Evelyn Rumsey; Jennie Cary, who married Laurence D. Rumsey; Walter Cary Jr.; and Seward Cary. His nephew through his sister Jennie, was Charles Cary Rumsey (1879–1922), who married Mary Harriman, daughter of millionaire railroad executive E. H. Harriman and Mary Williamson.
