George Allen (American Politician)
George Felix Allen (born March 8, 1952) is an American politician. A member of the Republican Party, he served as the 67th governor of Virginia from 1994 to 1998 and as a United States senator from Virginia from 2001 to 2007. The son of National Football League head coach George Allen, he served in the Virginia House of Delegates from 1983 to 1991, resigning after he won a special election for Virginia's 7th congressional district in November 1991. After his district was eliminated during redistricting, he declined to run for a full term in 1992, instead running for Governor of Virginia in the 1993 election. He defeated Democratic Attorney General of Virginia Mary Sue Terry by 58.3% against 40.9%. Barred by term limits from seeking reelection to a second term in 1997, he worked in the private sector until the 2000 election in which he ran for the United States Senate, defeating two-term Democratic incumbent Chuck Robb. George Allen (ice Hockey)
George Trenholm Allen (July 27, 1914 – March 27, 2000) was a Canadian professional ice hockey player who played Left Wing in the National Hockey League, mostly for the Chicago Black Hawks, between 1938 and 1947. Allen was born in Bayfield, New Brunswick, but grew up in Kerrobert, Saskatchewan. Playing career Allen began his career playing in various locations in the east, until he joined the North Battleford Beavers of the Northern Saskatchewan Senior Hockey League, with whom he went to the Allan Cup final in 1937, where they lost to the Sudbury Tigers. After playing four games with the Tigers himself the following year, Allen was then signed by the New York Rangers, and assigned to their New Haven Eagles farm team. Injuries to the Rangers forced them to call up Allen during the 1938–39 season, taking Lynn Patrick's place in the lineup, and he earned 12 points in 19 games. George Walker Bush (born July 6, 1946) is an American politician who served as the 43rd president of the United States from 2001 to 2009. George Cyril Allen
George Cyril Allen (28 June 1900 – 31 July 1982), published as G. C. Allen, was a British economist and academic. He was Brunner Professor of Economic Science at the University of Liverpool from 1933 to 1947, and then Professor of Political Economy at University College London from 1947 to 1967. He wrote on Japanese and British industrial policy. Life Allen was born in Kenilworth, Warwickshire. After education at King Henry VIII School, Coventry he briefly joined at the Royal Air Force in 1918 before studying at the University of Birmingham. There he studied under William Ashley, graduating B.Com in 1921 and M.Com in 1922. From 1922 to 1925 he taught economics at the Higher Commercial School in Nagoya, Japan. George Allen (26 March 1832 – 5 September 1907) was an English craftsman and engraver, who became an assistant to John Ruskin and then in consequence a publisher. His name persists in publishing through the Allen & Unwin company. Early life The son of John and Rebecca Allen, he was born on 26 March 1832 at Newark-on-Trent, and was educated at a private grammar school there. His father died in 1849, and in that year he was apprenticed for four years to an uncle (his mother's brother), a builder in Clerkenwell, London. He became a skilled joiner, and was employed for three and a half years in that capacity on the woodwork of the interior of Dorchester House, Park Lane. Allen and another workman worked for 79 days on a single door in the house, and Ruskin later showed a model of this door to his friends as a specimen of English craftsmanship. George Warner Allen
George Warner Allen (1916–1988) was a British artist, considered to be of the Neo-Romantic school. Life Allen was born in 1916. He was educated at Lancing College and then, on the recommendations of the artist Robert Anning Bell and art critic James Greig, at Byam Shaw School of Art, where he subsequently taught. He later lived and worked at Brightwell-cum-Sotwell, near Wallingford in Berkshire (now Oxfordshire). Allen held a solo exhibition at the Walker's Galleries, London, in 1952, for which the catalogue's introductory essay was written by his fellow painter Brian Thomas. Pictures were purchased by T. S. Eliot, Sir John Betjeman, and The Earl Baldwin. The strain of the exhibition left him, after a while, unable to paint for eight years. Sir George Vance Allen (16 April 1894 – 2 October 1970) was an Anglo-Irish British medical doctor, bacteriologist and academic administrator who served as the first Vice-Chancellor of the University of Malaya. Early life and education Allen was born on 16 April 1894 in Donegal, Ireland. His parents were Samuel Allen, a Methodist minister, and Eliza Anne Allen (née Vance). Allen grew up in Belfast, after his father moved to a ministry there. From 1907 he attended the Methodist College Belfast, where he was in the Rugby first XV and Cricket first XI. George Nelson Allen (September 7, 1812 – December 9, 1877) was an American composer and geologist who was associated with Oberlin College, where he taught for 34 years.
