''Gang of Losers'' is the third full-length album from Montreal band The Dears. It was released on August 29, 2006 in Canada under the Maple Music Recordings label and on October 3, 2006 in the USA under the Arts & Crafts label. On July 10, 2007, ''Gang of Losers'' was announced as a finalist for the 2007 Polaris Music Prize, alongside such other acts as Feist, Junior Boys, and Chad VanGaalen. The Dears
The Dears are a Canadian indie rock band from Montreal, Quebec. The band is led by the husband-and-wife duo of singer-guitarist Murray Lightburn and keyboardist Natalia Yanchak. History The band formed in 1995 and released their first album, '' End of a Hollywood Bedtime Story'', in 2000. Their orchestral, dark pop sound and dramatic live shows established The Dears as part of the then-emerging Canadian indie renaissance. The Dears performed in Toronto in October 2001 with Sloan. In 2001 and 2002, they released the EPs '' Orchestral Pop Noir Romantique'' and ''Protest,'' respectively, as well as a collection of unreleased songs, '' Nor the Dahlias''. Patrick Krief
Patrick Krief is a Canadian musician and singer-songwriter, most noted as a former guitarist for The Dears. In 2004 he appeared on MTV Canada's ''Project Moose Catch''. He was a guest on ''Jonathan Ross's'' show in 2005. In 2006, he made appearances on the ''Late Show with David Letterman'', ''Last Call with Carson Daly'', and ''Jimmy Kimmel Live!'' In August 2007, Krief released his debut solo EP ''Take It Or Leave'', which was co-mixed by former Dears bandmate Murray Lightburn. Valerie Jodoin Keaton is a Canadian photographer and musician. Photography career In 2001, Valerie Jodoin Keaton earned a degree in commercial photography at Dawson's Institute of Photography. In 2009, Jodoin Keaton published a book, ''Backstage'', which depicts rock musicians moments before and after their performances. Her collection contains photos of numerous rock stars, among whom are The Flaming Lips, Beastie Boys, The Smashing Pumpkins, Beck, Rufus Wainwright, Paul McCartney and Jack White. Murray Lightburn
Murray A. Lightburn is a Canadian musician, best known as the lead vocalist and principal songwriter for The Dears. Lightburn has been called "the black Morrissey" due to his vocal similarity (and shared penchant for somewhat dark lyrics) to the former The Smiths lead singer. Incidentally, The Dears toured as Morrissey's opening act during Morrissey's solo tour in 2006. In 2013 he released the solo album ''Mass: Light''. Chad VanGaalen (born 1977) is a Canadian musician and artist from Calgary, Alberta. Junior Boys
Junior Boys are a Canadian electronic pop group, founded in 1999 in Hamilton, Ontario by Jeremy Greenspan and Johnny Dark. Dark left the project shortly after, and was replaced by engineer Matt Didemus. The duo initially gained critical praise for their 2003 single "Birthday" and 2004 debut album '' Last Exit''.
