Gymnastics At The 1932 Summer Olympics – Men's Floor
The men's floor or ''free-handed exercise'' event was part of the gymnastics programme at the 1932 Summer Olympics. It was contested for the first time at the Olympics. The competition was held on Monday, August 8, 1932. Twenty-five gymnasts from six nations competed. Medalists Results A separate competition was held, unrelated to the all-around event but only participants from the all-around contest were allowed to compete. Savino Guglielmetti
Savino Guglielmetti (26 November 1911 – 23 January 2006) was an Italian gymnast. He competed at the 1932, 1936 and 1948 Olympics and won two gold medals in 1932. Biography A taxi ran over Guglielmetti when he was a child, but he escaped unharmed. He later fell from a four-story building, but managed to cling on power cables and survived. Originally a pole vaulter, he joined a gymnastics club in 1927, where he was coached by Mario Corrias. Three years later he became a member of the national team. Although he won two Olympic gold medals in 1932, he faced a strong competition in Italy, and won his first national all-around title only in 1934. He defended it in 1935, 1937, 1938 and 1939. Mauri Nyberg-Noroma
Mauri Kalervo Nyberg-Noroma (31 January 1908 in Viipuri – 23 December 1939 in Muolaa) was a Finnish gymnast. He won three Olympic medals for Finland. He took part in his first Olympics in 1928 in Amsterdam but did not medal. He came joint sixth after a fifth place in the rings and seventh on the pommel horse and parallel bars. The Finnish team came in fifth place in the team competition. In the next Olympics, in 1932, Finland took bronze in the team competition. Individually, Nyberg-Noroma failed to medal, but he came in fourth place in the parallel bars, 1.4 points behind his compatriot Heikki Savolainen, who took bronze. Overall, he came in ninth place.
