Grendel (comics)
''Grendel'' is a long-running series of comic books originally created by American author Matt Wagner. First published in 1982 by Comico, Wagner later moved publication of the series to Dark Horse. Originally a noir comic in the style of European titles such as ''Diabolik'', it has evolved into, in Wagner's words, a study of the nature of aggression. In 2009, Hunter Rose (the first Grendel) was ranked as IGN's 88th-greatest villain of all time. Overview Grendel was the masked identity of Hunter Rose, a successful author. As Grendel, he worked as an assassin before taking control of New York City's organized crime. He first appeared in October 1982 in the anthology ''Comico Primer'', and was given his own series in 1983. This was quickly cancelled due to the publisher's financial troubles. Matt Wagner
Matt Wagner (born October 9, 1961) is an American comics artist and writer who is best known as the creator of the series ''Mage (comics), Mage'' and ''Grendel (comics), Grendel''. Early life, family and education Matt Wagner's childhood was spent in central Pennsylvania (near State College, Pennsylvania) and in Front Royal, Virginia. His mother was an English teacher, and his father (a World War II veteran) worked for a "synthetic fibers corporation". Even during his grade school years, Wagner knew he wanted to create comic books. He was in the Class of 1979 at Warren County High School (Virginia), Warren County High School in Front Royal, Virginia. For two years he attended college in Virginia at James Madison University, but he transferred to art school at Philadelphia College of Art. Joe Matt (September 3, 1963 – September 18, 2023) was an American cartoonist, best known for his autobiographical work, ''Peepshow''. Early life Joe Matt was born and raised in Lansdale, Pennsylvania, a middle-class suburb of Philadelphia. He had three siblings. His mother was a housewife. His father held a variety of different jobs, including owner of a carpet store and a longtime stint working for Amtrak; in Matt's words, "he seemed to drift from job to job a lot." Matt credited his childhood lack of money with forming his later habit of cheapness. He attended Catholic school until 12th grade. Kabuki
is a classical form of Theatre of Japan, Japanese theatre, mixing dramatic performance with Japanese traditional dance, traditional dance. Jeromy Cox (born October 23, 1970) is an American colorist. He has worked on several notable titles including Detective Comics, Spider-Man, Promethea, Mage, Avengers Academy, DMZ, and Grendel.
