Greece Men's National Handball Team
The Greece national handball team is the national handball team of Greece and is controlled by the Hellenic Handball Federation. Greece has a long tradition in handball. First of all, Greece made it to the handball 2005 World Cup and the 2004 Olympics where they beat Brazil, Korea and won against Egypt in a close game. In the Olympics they lost to eventual champions Croatia, and finished sixth in the tournament. In the World Cup they finished in the sixth position as well. Greece will take part in the EHF Euro for the first time in 2024. The Hellenic Handball Federation (OXE) (') is the governing body of handball and beach handball in Hellenic Republic (Greece). Founded in 1979, OXE is affiliated to the International Handball Federation and European Handball Federation. OXE is also affiliated to the Hellenic Olympic Committee and the Mediterranean Handball Confederation. It is based in Athens. 1958 World Men's Handball Championship
The 1958 World Men's Handball Championship was the third indoor handball World Championship. It was held in the German Democratic Republic between 27 February and 8 March 1958. Germany sent a united team composed of players from the GDR and the FRG. Sweden won the championship. Qualification There was no qualification for this edition. Besides Germany which was already qualified as host, the first 15 teams got a spot. Belgium made the last respectively sixteenth application and was therefore denied. They were reservist if an other country would have cancelled. Switzerland was the only participant of the last world championship (1954) which didn't apply. At the meeting of the Schweizerischer Handballausschuss (HBA) on 27./28. July 1957 the council decided unanimous to boycott the world championship. 1938 World Men's Handball Championship
The 1938 World Men's Handball Championship was the first ever handball World Championship. It was played in Germany on 5 and 6 February 1938. Contested by just 4 national teams, the tournament was won by hosts Germany. History Only two years before at the fourth International Amateur Handball Federation, IAHF congress the first international rules for indoor handball were created. The only game between indoor handball national teams had been played between the Danish and Swedish teams in Copenhagen on 8 March 1935. Sweden had won 18 to 12. In Germany and Austria indoor handball was not regularly played and they had no international appearance yet. IHF World Men's Handball Championship
The IHF Men's Handball World Championship has been organized indoor by the International Handball Federation since 1938. In the twenty-nine tournaments held, twelve national teams have won the title. France is the most successful team with six titles, followed by Sweden, Denmark and Romania with four titles each. The current champion is Denmark, which won its fourth consecutive title at the 2025 tournament in Croatia, Denmark and Norway. History The first indoor championship took place in Germany in 1938, involving four teams from Europe made up of 7 players who competed in a round robin stage to find a winner. The men's handball tournament at the 2024 Summer Olympics was the 15th edition of the handball event for men at the Summer Olympic Games. It was held from 27 July to 11 August 2024. Handball At The 2020 Summer Olympics – Men's Tournament
The men's handball tournament at the 2020 Summer Olympics was the 14th edition of the handball event for men at the Summer Olympic Games. It was held from 24 July to 7 August 2021. All games were played at the Yoyogi National Gymnasium in Tokyo, Japan. It was originally scheduled to be held in 2020, but on 24 March 2020, the Olympics were postponed to 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Because of this pandemic, the games were played behind closed doors. The final was a rematch of the previous between Denmark and France. After Denmark won 28–26 in the 2016 final, France got the upper hand with a 25–23 win this time. Spain won the bronze medal match against Egypt. This meant that France won both gold medals as the first team since 1984. Handball At The 2012 Summer Olympics – Men's Tournament
The men's handball tournament at the 2012 Olympic Games in London was held from 28 July to 12 August at the Olympic Park. The group stage matches were held at the Copper Box and the knockout rounds took place at the larger Basketball Arena. Twelve nations were represented in the tournament. The four best teams from each group advanced to a quarter-final round, while the 5th and 6th teams in each group were classified 9th–12th by the results of their group matches. Unlike in previous Olympics there was no placement matches involving the losing teams of the quarter-finals.
