Gračanica, Bosnia And Herzegovina
Gračanica ( cyrl, Грачаница) is a city located in Tuzla Canton of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, an entity of Bosnia and Herzegovina. It is located in northeastern Bosnia and Herzegovina, east of Doboj and west of Tuzla. As of 2013, it has a population of 45,220 inhabitants. Gračanica Gračanica is located in the lower valley of the River Sokoluša along the main road from Tuzla to Doboj, about 50 km west of Tuzla. Settlements History The earliest documented references to Gračanica date back to 1528 in Ottoman Empire, Ottoman archives, where it was identified for its iron mine. Approximately 4 km (2.5 mi) from the town, a medieval fortress named Sokol existed. Gračanica attained town status in 1548. Battle Of Gračanica
The Battle of Tripolje ( sr-cyr, битка код Трипоља/бој на Трипољу), also known as the Battle of Gračanica (), was fought in November 1402 between the Serbian Despotate, ruled by the Lazarević dynasty, and the Branković family, aided by the Ottoman Empire. Following the Ottoman defeat at Ankara in 1402, Serbian ruler Stefan Lazarević saw an opportunity to free himself of Ottoman overlordship. Awarded the high honorary title of '' despot'' by Byzantine Emperor Manuel II Palaiologos, Lazarević began to wield increasing autonomy in his political decision making. Following a quarrel said to have arisen because of his nephew Đurađ Branković's intent to join forces with the new Ottoman sultan, Lazarević had Branković imprisoned. Gračanica Lake
Badovc Lake is an artificial reservoir on the river Gračanka, two kilometers above Gračanica, built between 1963 and 1966 to supply the city of Pristina with water. The dam, with a height of 52 m and a width of 246 m, was built in Badovc ravine below Gollak mountains, near the "Rainwater" mine. When full, the lake is long and up to wide, with a maximum depth of 30 m and a total volume of 26 million cubic meters of water. The lake has a catchment area of . The Hercegovačka Gračanica Monastery () is a Serbian Orthodox monastery located in Trebinje, in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Largely a copy of the Gračanica monastery in Kosovo, it was completed in 2000.
