Grant Gordon Smith (born 5 May 1980) is a Scottish former professional footballer who played as a midfielder. He is the son of former Rangers and Brighton & Hove Albion striker and former Scottish Football Association chief executive Gordon Smith. Playing career Smith was born in Irvine. He signed a short-term contract with Dundee United in September 2006, agreeing to stay until the next transfer window in January 2007. Smith also played for English sides Bristol City and Walsall (on loan). Smith then signed one-year contract with Finnish club HJK Helsinki in April 2007. Smith returned to Britain in January 2008 and joined Carlisle United on a short-term contract until the end of the season, after training with the club's squad. On 8 April 2009, he was released from Carlisle United by mutual consent after not making a single first team appearance under new boss Greg Abbott who later denied any fall-out with Smith even though impressing in reserve games out of position. Northern Fury Football Club was an Australian professional soccer club based in Townsville, Queensland. The club was founded in 2008 and competed in the A-League under the name North Queensland Fury. Gregory Stephen Abbott (born 14 December 1963) is an English football coach and former player who is the head of recruitment of Carlisle United. He played as a right back or midfielder. Abbott was the manager of Carlisle United from December 2008 until September 2013. Born in Coventry, Abbott started his career with his hometown team Coventry City. He was released without playing a game but recommended to Bradford City, where he won the Division Three title in the 1984–85 season and went on to play more than 300 games. Gordon Duffield Smith (born 29 December 1954) is a Scottish football player, coach and executive. Smith played for several clubs, including Kilmarnock, Rangers, Brighton & Hove Albion and Manchester City. After retiring as a player, he worked as a football agent and BBC football pundit before being appointed chief executive of the Scottish Football Association in 2007, a post he held until his resignation on 19 April 2010. Smith then worked as the director of football of Rangers during the 2011–12 season. Smith was also responsible for the introduction of an agreement between the Home Nations' football associations which allowed players educated in a home nation for five years before the age of eighteen to represent that nation at international level.
