Grant's is a blended Scotch whisky, produced by the company William Grant & Sons in Scotland. It is the world's third highest selling Scotch whisky. History In 1886, William Grant started working in the distillery business as a bookkeeper. In 1898, Pattisons, the largest Scotch whisky blender at the time, went bankrupt, and William Grant stepped in and launched Grant's whisky. William built the Glenfiddich distillery in Dufftown, Scotland, with the help of his seven sons and two daughters. On Christmas Day 1887, it produced its first product. Later, William's son-in-law Charles Gordon became the company's first salesman, and in 1909, he spent a year taking Grant's to Australia and the far east. In 1915, a new law stated that the minimum maturation period for Scotch whisky was to be two years (today it is three). Charles Grant Gordon (21 August 192721 December 2013) was a Scottish whisky distiller, chairman and president of his family firm, William Grant & Sons. Early life Charles Grant Gordon was born in Glasgow on 21 August 1927, the eldest son of William Grant, and the great-grandson of the original William Grant. He was educated at Glasgow Academy and Rugby School, followed by a bachelor's degree in accounting at Glasgow University. Career In 1951, Gordon qualified as a chartered accountant, and then joined the family business. Following his father's death in 1953, Gordon became a director, later joined by his younger brother Sandy and by Eric Lloyd Roberts, the husband of his aunt Janet Sheed Roberts (née Gordon). Hans Schleger (born Hans Leo Degenhard Schlesinger; 29 December 1898 – 18 September 1976) was a German-Polish-Jewish and later British graphic designer. Early life He was born in Kępno, Kempen in Posen, Prussia (in modern-day Poland) on 9 December 1898 to Jewish parents. His family relocated to Berlin when he was six. Balvenie distillery is a Speyside single malt Scotch whisky distillery located in Dufftown, Scotland. Is owned by William Grant & Sons. History William Grant was born on 19 December 1839 in his father's house in Dufftown. At seven he began herding cattle at a farm on the upper reaches of the River Deveron. He was apprenticed to a shoemaker then worked as a clerk, and then became a bookkeeper at Mortlach distillery 1866. There he was appointed as a clerk and then manager and learned the distilling trade. After about twenty years, Grant left his job at the Mortlach distillery and bought a field near Balvenie Castle.
