The governor of Gilgit Baltistan is the appointed head of state of the provincial government in Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan. The governor is designated by the prime minister of Pakistan and is normally regarded a ceremonial post. However, throughout the history of Pakistan, the powers of the provincial governors were vastly increased, every time the provincial assemblies were dissolved and the administrative role came under direct control of the governors. Wazir Baig
Mir Wazir Baig is a Pakistani politician from Gilgit-Baltistan who served as the first speaker of the Gilgit Baltistan Assembly. He also served as the governor of Gilgit Baltistan in 2010. Early life and education Mir Wazir Baig was born in 1942 in Hunza, Pakistan. Political career He started his political career as the president of the Hunza Students Movement aimed at putting an end to the rule of Mirs. He demanded that people should be allowed to meet President Chaudry Fazal Illahi during his visit to Hunza. Upon this Wazir Baig was brutally tortured and was kept in prison till president completed the visit. Wazir Baig along with his supporters kept raising voice against the cruelties of the Mir rule which came to an end in 1974 when Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto dissolved the state. List Of Current Pakistani Governors
A governor (—) is the head of a province, appointed by the president of Pakistan on the advice of the prime minister. The governor is the nominal head of the provincial executive and the representative of the federal in their province. Articles 101 to 105 of the Constitution of Pakistan deal with the appointment, conditions, and duties of a governor. A governor should be eligible to be elected as a member of the National Assembly of Pakistan, and should be at least 35 years old. They should also be a registered voter of the concerned province, and should not hold any office of profit. The chief justice of the concerned province's High Court administers the oath of office, after which the governor is not eligible for the election as a member of the Parliament of Pakistan and the Provincial Assemblies as long as they are in office. The Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly (GBA), formerly known as Gilgit-Baltistan Legislative Assembly (GBLA), is a unicameral legislature of elected representatives of the Pakistani territory (''de facto'' province) of Gilgit-Baltistan which is located in Jutial neighbourhood in the city of Gilgit, the capital of Gilgit-Baltistan. Pir Karam Ali Shah
Pir Karam Ali Shah (c. 1934 – 2020) was a Pakistani politician who served as governor of Gilgit-Baltistan. He was appointed governor on January 26, 2011, by President of Pakistan, Asif Ali Zardari. He was succeeded by Governor Chaudhry Muhammad Barjees Tahir, who took office on 16 February 2015. Raja Jalal Hussain Maqpoon () is a Pakistani politician who served as the 7th Governor of Gilgit-Baltistan from 2018 to 2022.
