The Dominican Republic is a representative democracy, where the president of the Dominican Republic functions as both the head of the government and head of the multi-party system. Executive power is exercised by the government. Legislative power is vested in the bicameral Congress of the Dominican Republic, National Congress. The Judiciary is independent of the executive and the legislature. Proportional representation (PR) refers to any electoral system under which subgroups of an electorate are reflected proportionately in the elected body. The concept applies mainly to political divisions (Political party, political parties) among voters. The aim of such systems is that all votes cast contribute to the result so that each representative in an assembly is mandated by a roughly equal number of voters, and therefore all votes have equal weight. Independencia Province
Independencia () is a province of the Dominican Republic, located in the west, on the border with Haiti. Its capital is Jimani. The province was created in 1948 but was made official in 1950. Before its creation, it was part of the Baoruco Province. The name was given in remembrance of the National Independence of February 27, 1844. Espaillat () is one of the 32 provinces of the Dominican Republic. It is divided into 5 municipalities and its capital city is Moca. Elías Piña () is one of the 32 Provinces of the Dominican Republic, provinces of the Dominican Republic, located in the westernmost part of the country, along the border with Haiti. It is divided into 6 municipalities and its capital city is Comendador, Dominican Republic, Comendador. El Seibo Province
El Seibo (), alternatively spelt El Seybo, is a Provinces of the Dominican Republic, province of the Dominican Republic. Before 1992 it included what is now Hato Mayor Province, Hato Mayor province. History El Seibo was founded in 1502 by Juan de Esquivel, a notable a Spanish conquistador. Azua () is a province which is collectively one of the thirty-two provinces of the Dominican Republic.
