Goodman Fielder is an Australian manufacturer, marketer and distributor of bread, smallgoods, dairy products, margarine, oil, dressings and various food ingredients. Its main operations are in New Zealand, Australia, Fiji, Papua New Guinea, and New Caledonia, with over 40 manufacturing sites. The company employs over 5,000 people, and has more than 120 brands. History Goodman Group was founded as A.S. Paterson & Co. ltd in Dunedin in 1886 as a general importing firm by Scottish-born businessman and philanthropist Alexander Stronach Paterson. It was listed on the New Zealand Stock Exchange in 1949 and would come to focus mainly on the grocery business. The firm was renamed as Goodman Group in 1979 after Paterson's grandson Alex was ousted as chairman in 1976 by "dissatisfied baking interests". Meadow Fresh is a New Zealand dairy brand. It is owned by Goodman Fielder. The modern brand came into being as the result of a brand swap in September 2005 between Dairy Foods, owned by Graeme Hart, and New Zealand Milk, owned by Fonterra. Thomas Edmonds (manufacturer)
Thomas John Edmonds (13 October 1858 – 2 June 1932) was a British-born New Zealand businessman and philanthropist, who created and manufactured Edmonds "Sure to Rise" baking powder and the ''Edmonds Cookery Book''. He also financed the construction of several buildings in Christchurch, including gifting the city a band rotunda and a clock tower in 1929. Early life Edmonds was born on 13 October 1858 in Poplar, London, and in his early years worked for London confectionery manufacturer F. Allen and Son, where he became familiar with the powders used to make sherbet. He married Jane Irvine on 8 June 1879, and both migrated to New Zealand, arriving at Lyttelton aboard the ''Waitangi'' on 26 September 1879. Ernest Alfred Adams (23 November 1892 – 29 August 1976) was a New Zealand baker, businessman and philanthropist. He co-founded Ernest Adams Limited. Biography Born in Wellington, Somerset, England, Adams was educated at Devon County School. In 1909 he went to work for his father Herbert John Adams a master baker. In 1912, after declaring bankruptcy, Adams's family emigrated to Melbourne, Australia. In 1915 he opened his own bakery in Ballarat, Victoria. In 1921, after the death of his wife Mary Florinda Larson during childbirth, Adams moved to Christchurch where he had met Hugh Bruce, an elderly baker looking to sell his business. Adams and Bruce set up a partnership under the name "Adams Bruce Ltd." By 1929 the company expanded and opened new bakeries in Auckland, Wellington and Dunedin. Bluebird Foods Ltd is a New Zealand division of the U.S.-based PepsiCo corporation, that manufactures snack foods. All snacks are manufactured at the Bluebird Foods factory in Wiri, Auckland.
