Godstone
Godstone is a village and civil parishes in England, civil parish in the Tandridge District of Surrey, England. It is east of Reigate, west of Oxted, east of Guildford and south of London. Close to the North Downs, both the North Downs Way and the Greensand Way pass through Godstone. Etymology The earliest known appearance of the name is ''Godeston'' from AD 1248. It was subsequently known as ''Godestone, Godiston, Codeston, Codestone, Coddestone, Coddeston'' and ''Goddeston.'' The name took its current form in AD 1548. The root itself is uncertain but is the same as the towns of Godalming and Godmanchester, suggesting it may be derived from the ethnonym of the Goths who settled Sub-Roman Britain. It appears the town was part of a Sub-Roman Britain, Sub-Roman network, linked via old Roman road to Goddards Green, West Sussex, Goddards Green and Ditchling in Sussex. Oxted
Oxted is a town and civil parish in the Tandridge District, Tandridge district of Surrey, England. It is at the foot of the North Downs, south-east of Croydon, west of Sevenoaks, and north of East Grinstead. Oxted is a commuter town and Oxted railway station has direct train services to London. Its main developed area is contiguous with the village of Limpsfield. The headwaters of the River Eden, Kent, River Eden unite in the town, east of Titsey Place. The Eden feeds into Kent's longest river, the River Medway, Medway. Only the southern slope of the North Downs is steep and its towns and farmland form the Vale of Holmesdale, a series of headwaters across Surrey and Kent to separate rivers. Goddards Green, West Sussex
Goddards Green (Goddards' Green on Ordnance Survey maps) is a hamlet in the Mid Sussex District of West Sussex, England. It is in the civil parish of Hurstpierpoint and Sayers Common, and lies just off the A2300 road 1.7 miles (2.8 km) west of Burgess Hill. The hamlet consists of the Sportsman Inn, a few cottages, a water treatment works, a sawmill and a timber depot. The hamlet has become considerably quieter since the building of the A2300 as the roads through the hamlet were used by traffic taking shortcuts from the A23 to Burgess Hill. Today only the north–south Cuckfield– Hurstpierpoint road is operational. Greensand Way
The Greensand Way is a long-distance path of in southeast England, from Haslemere in Surrey to Hamstreet in Kent. It follows the Greensand Ridge along the Surrey Hills AONB, Surrey Hills and Chart Hills. The route is mostly rural, passing through Woodland, woods, and alongside fruit orchards and Hops, hop farms in Kent and links with the Stour Valley Walk near Pluckley in Kent. The trail was opened on 15 June 1980 and is jointly managed by Surrey and Kent Councils who fully updated it in 2012 (route, waymarking, online guide). Much of the land is designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). The stretch from Hindhead to Leith Hill has formed part of the Surrey Hills AONB since 1958. North Downs
The North Downs are a ridge of chalk hills in south east England that stretch from Farnham in Surrey to the White Cliffs of Dover in Kent. Much of the North Downs comprises two Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONBs): the Surrey Hills AONB, Surrey Hills and the Kent Downs AONB, Kent Downs. Reigate
Reigate ( ) is a town status in the United Kingdom, town in Surrey, England, around south of central London. The settlement is recorded in Domesday Book of 1086 as ''Cherchefelle'', and first appears with its modern name in the 1190s. The earliest archaeological evidence for human activity is from the Paleolithic and Neolithic, and during the Roman Britain, Roman period, tile-making took place to the north east of the modern centre. A motte-and-bailey castle was erected in Reigate in the late 11th or early 12th century.
