GoPro, Inc. (marketed as GoPro and sometimes stylized as GoPRO) is an American technology company founded in 2002 by Nick Woodman. It manufactures action cameras and develops its own mobile apps and video editing software, video-editing software. Founded as Woodman Labs, Inc, the company is based in San Mateo, California. It developed a quadcopter drone, ''Karma'', released in October 2016, but was shortly discontinued after around 2 years after release. Also in January 2018, the company hired JPMorgan Chase to pursue the option of selling the company. However, a month later, the CEO denied this. GoPro has continued its business of manufacturing action cameras. CineForm Intermediate is an open source (from October 2017) video codec developed for CineForm Inc by David Taylor, David Newman and Brian Schunck. On March 30, 2011, the company was acquired by GoPro which in particular wanted to use the 3D film capabilities of the CineForm 444 Codec for its GoPro#Multiple-lens and synchronized cameras, 3D HERO System. An action camera or action cam is a digital camera designed for recording action while being immersed in it. Action cameras are therefore typically compact, rugged, and waterproof at the surface level. Periscope was an American live video streaming app for Android and iOS developed by Kayvon Beykpour and Joe Bernstein and acquired by Twitter, Inc. before its launch in March 2015. The service was discontinued on 31 March 2021 due to declining usage, product realignment, and high maintenance costs.
