Gnúpverjar (basketball Club)
Körfuknattleiksdeild Gnúpverja, commonly known as Gnúpverjar, is a basketball club based in Reykjavík, Iceland. It is part of the Ungmennafélag Gnúpverja multi-sport club. History The club finished as the runner-up in Division II in 1991, losing to Keilufélag Reykjavíkur 69-61, and 1992. In 1992, it had originally lost to ÍFL in the playoff final, 97–49, but due to ÍFL using an illegal player against Bolungarvík during the group stage, the final had to be replayed. As Bolungarvík was awarded 2–0 victory in the group stage game against ÍFL, they finished top in their group and advanced to the final game. In the rematch, Gnúpverjar lost again, this time 68–54. After years of hiatus, the team was resurrected in 2015 and rapidly moved up the Icelandic basketball league pyramid, winning Division III in its ignaural season in 2016 and finishing second in Division II in 2017 and achieving promotion to Division I. ''Morgunblaðið'' (, ''The Morning Paper'') is an Icelandic daily newspaper. ''Morgunblaðið''s website, mbl.is, is the most popular website in Iceland. It is currently the country's only daily printed newspaper and the newspaper of record. The Icelandic basketball league system, or Icelandic basketball league pyramid, is a series of League system, interconnected competitions for basketball clubs in Iceland. The system has a hierarchical format with a promotion and relegation, promotion and demotion system between competitions at different levels. Men There are currently four different competitions on the pyramid - the 1st tier Premier League (Iceland), Úrvalsdeild, the 2nd tier First Division Men (Icelandic basketball), Division I, the 3rd tier Division II, and the 4th tier Division III. Everage Lee Richardson (born December 23, 1985) is an American and Icelandic basketball player for the Úrvalsdeild karla club Haukar. A high scoring guard, he has played professionally in Germany, Luxembourg and Iceland. College career After graduating from Washington Irving High School in New York in 2004, Richardson played college basketball at Sullivan County Community College in Loch Sheldrake. He was named Mid Hudson Conference Most Valuable Player in 2004-05 and 2005-06, while earning Junior College All-American distinction twice. Tómas Steindórsson (born 24 April 1991) is an Icelandic radio host, entertainer, social media celebrity and basketball player. He is currently a radio host at X-977 where he hosts the morning show ''Tommi Steindórs'' and co-hosts the basketball show ''Boltinn lýgur ekki'' with Sigurður Orri Kristjánsson.
