Global Media Group (called Global Media and formerly named Controlinveste Media and Lusomundo Media) is a Portuguese media holding company founded by Portuguese sports mogul and FC Porto SAD's shareholder Joaquim Oliveira. History and profile Global Media Group has its origins in Olivedesportos, a company founded in 1990 by Joaquim Oliveira and in the privatizations of DN and JN. In the early 1990s, businessman Luís Silva transformed himself into the media sector as the winner of the privatizations of DN and JN. TSF Rádio Notícias, founded by a group of journalists, is the last media outlet to join the Lusomundo group, which acquired the majority of TSF in 1994. Global Media Group has held interests in the area of television broadcasting rights for the main professional football competitions in Portugal, as well as sponsorship and sports advertising rights. It is the owner of the largest commercial radio company in Europe having expanded through a number of historical acquisitions, including Chrysalis Radio, GCap Media and GMG Radio. Global owns and operates seven core radio brands, all employing a national network strategy, including Capital, Heart, Smooth, Radio X, Gold, Classic FM and LBC. Global Media AIDS Initiative
The Global Media AIDS Initiative (GMAI) is an umbrella organization that unites and motivates media companies around the world to use their influence, resources, and creative talent to address AIDS. The GMAI creates a framework for sharing television and radio programming among media companies in order to increase public health messaging. The organization also educates journalists, editors and producers on how to cover the issue. HIV is preventable, and GMAI members aim to improve public awareness and knowledge to help stem the spread of HIV/AIDS. Within the GMAI, there are five national and regional coalitions of media companies. As of July 2009, the media initiatives in Africa, Asia, Russia, Latin America and the Caribbean included over 300 member broadcasters total. GMA Network Inc., commonly known as GMA, is a Philippine media company based in Diliman, Quezon City, Metro Manila, Philippines. GMA is primarily involved in radio and television broadcasting, with subsidiaries dealing in various media-related businesses. The majority of its profits are derived from publicity and marketing incomes associated with television distribution. GMA is formed by the legal name of Global Media Arts. GMA Network was founded on March 1, 1950 by American entrepreneur Robert "Uncle Bob" Stewart as Loreto F. de Hemedes Inc. The company launched its first radio station, DZBB on June 14, 1950. Its first broadcast on television was launched on October 29, 1961, and the television station was known as DZBB Channel 7.
