Ghana Women's National Field Hockey Team
The Ghana women's national field hockey team represents Ghana in women's international field hockey competitions. Ghana participated in the Hockey World League in ( 2016–2017). In Round 1, they played in the African group with Kenya and Nigeria, winning both pool matches. In Round 2, which was played in Valencia in February 2017, they finished in 8th position. Trainings and matches in preparation for international tournaments are held at the Theodosia Okoh Hockey Stadium in Accra. Ghana Hockey Association
The Ghana Hockey Association is the governing body of field hockey in Ghana. It is affiliated to IHF International Hockey Federation and AHF African Hockey Federation. The headquarters of the association is in Accra, Ghana. The main hockey venue of the association is the Theodosia Okoh Hockey Stadium (named after the former president of the Ghana Hockey Association, Theodosia Okoh). Dr. Ben K.D. Asante is the President and Rita Odei Asare is the Secretary General. History The origin of Ghana Hockey Association goes back to November 1950. In 1961, Mr. Owusu Afriyie, Minister of Social Welfare, was elected the Chairman. Mr E.K. Okoh, Cabinet Secretary was elected as his deputy. 2007 African Olympic Field Hockey Qualifier
The 2007 African Olympic Qualifier was the first edition of the African field hockey qualification tournament for the Summer Olympics for men and women. It was held from 14 to 22 July 2007 in Nairobi, Kenya. Field Hockey At The 2023 African Games
Field Hockey will be among the sports at the 13th African Games to held in 8 to 23 March 2023 in Accra, Ghana. The play will feature both a men's and women's tournament. The hockey start date has been moved to 17 March due to the unreadiness of the Theodosia Okoh Hockey Stadium. South Africa has withdrawn both its field hockey teams from based on recommendations, guidelines as set down by the International Hockey Federation and the field is not satisfactory and may cause harm to the athletes. 2025 Women's Hockey Africa Cup Of Nations
The 2025 Women's Hockey Africa Cup of Nations will be the ninth edition of the Women's Hockey Africa Cup of Nations, the quadrennial international women's field hockey championship of Africa organised by the African Hockey Federation. In March 2025 it was announced that the tournament would be held alongside the men's tournament in Ismailia, Egypt from 11 to 18 October 2025. The winner will qualify for the 2026 Women's FIH Hockey World Cup. Qualification The highest-ranked team in the FIH Women's World Ranking qualified directly for the tournament while the other teams had to play in the regional qualifiers. The top two teams from each regional qualifier qualified for the tournament. The three regions were North-East Africa, North-West Africa, and Central-South Africa. The 2022 Women's Hockey Africa Cup of Nations was the eighth edition of the Women's Hockey Africa Cup of Nations, the quadrennial international women's field hockey championship of Africa organised by the African Hockey Federation. In February 2021 it was announced that the tournament would be held alongside the 2022 Men's Hockey Africa Cup of Nations, men's tournament at the Theodosia Okoh Hockey Stadium in Accra, Ghana from 17 to 23 January 2022.
