German Submarine U-264
German submarine ''U-264'' was a Type VIIC U-boat of Nazi Germany's ''Kriegsmarine'' during World War II. The submarine was laid down on 21 June 1941 at the ''Bremer-Vulkan-Vegesacker Werft'' (yard) in Bremen as yard number 29. She was launched on 2 April 1942 and commissioned on 22 May under the command of ''Oberleutnant zur See'' Hartwig Looks. In five patrols, she sank three ships of . She was sunk on 19 February 1944 by British warships but the entire crew survived and were taken prisoner. Design German Type VIIC submarines were preceded by the shorter Type VIIB submarines. Supercharged
In an internal combustion engine, a supercharger compresses the intake gas, forcing more air into the engine in order to produce more power for a given displacement. It is a form of forced induction that is mechanically powered (usually by a belt from the engine's crankshaft), as opposed to a turbocharger, which is powered by the kinetic energy of the exhaust gases. The draft or draught of a ship is a determined depth of the vessel below the waterline, measured vertically to its hull (watercraft), hull's lowest—its propellers, or keel, or other reference point.
