George Barton (cricketer)
George Barton (8 June 1808 – 20 June 1864) was an English cricketer. Barton was a right-handed batting (cricket), batsman. He was born at Dartford, Kent. Barton made his first-class cricket, first-class debut for Sussex county cricket teams, Sussex against the Marylebone Cricket Club in 1835 at the Royal New Ground, Royal New Ground, Brighton. He next appeared in first-class cricket for Sussex in 1836 against Kent county cricket teams, Kent, before playing the same opposition again in 1838. In 1839, he appeared in a single first-class match for the Gentlemen of Sussex against the Marylebone Cricket Club, as well as playing in that season for the newly formed Sussex County Cricket Club in its second first-class match, which came against England cricket team, England. Barton played first-class cricket for Sussex until 1856, making a further 30 first-class appearances for the County Cricket Club, the last of which came against Kent County Cricket Club in 1856. George Elliott Barton
George Elliott Barton (20 May 1829 – 31 May 1903) was a 19th-century lawyer and practised as a barrister in Dublin (Ireland), Melbourne (Victoria), Dunedin & Wellington (New Zealand), Sydney (New South Wales). He was appointed a judge in Dunedin and Wellington, New Zealand. Family life George Barton married Jane Crichton Campbell, eldest daughter of the Rev. Dr. Campbell of London, on 8 April 1854 at Melbourne, Victoria. Their first child, a son, Elliott L'Estrange Barton (solicitor Patea & Hawera; Mayor Hawera), was born 13 July 1856 at South Yarra, Victoria. Their second child, another son, Edward Gustavus Campbell Barton (electrical engineer, Brisbane) was born 11 December 1857 at South Yarra. He died in Paris, France, on 31 May 1903. There appears to have been a daughter Anna who lived to adulthood. George Burnett Barton
George Burnett Barton (9 December 1836 – 12 September 1901) was an Australian lawyer, journalist and historian. Early life and education Barton was born in Sydney, the second son of William Barton and Mary Louise Barton, and elder brother of Sir Edmund Barton. He was educated at William Timothy Cape's school and at the University of Sydney. After a dispute with Professor John Woolley, he left for England, where he was admitted to the Middle Temple on 20 April 1857 and called to the Bar in 1860. Career Barton returned to Australia and became a journalist and was the first editor of the Sydney ''Punch''. From 1865 to 1868 he was reader in English literature at the University of Sydney; his introductory lecture, ''The Study of English Literature'', was published in 1866. George Hunt Barton (1852–1933) was an American geologist, arctic explorer, and college professor. He was an alumnus and faculty member in geology at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, served as the director of the Teachers' School of Science in Boston and was the founding president of the Boston Children's Museum. George Aaron Barton
George Aaron Barton (12 November 1859 – 28 June 1942) was a Canadian author, Episcopal clergyman, and professor of Semitic languages and the history of religion. Biography Barton was born on 12 November 1859 in East Farnham, Canada East, Canada. After attending Oakwood Seminary in Union Springs, New York. Barton became a minister in the Religious Society of Friends and continued his education at Haverford College, completing a MA in 1885. He taught in Rhode Island from 1884 to 1889, then earned a PhD at Harvard and became a professor of Semitic languages at Bryn Mawr College in 1891. In 1922 Barton moved to the University of Pennsylvania, where he was professor of Semitic languages and the history of religion. He retired in 1931 and held the title of professor emeritus until his death. He specialized in many subjects, particularly in Semitic languages. George Barton (footballer)
George Alexander Barton (23 August 1934 - 5 May 1977) was an Australian rules footballer who played with Hawthorn in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Barton was born in Tawonga and was the brother of Colin Barton, who played with Geelong Football Club and Bill Barton who played with North Melbourne Football Club. George Barton started playing senior football for Tawonga in the Yackandandah & District Football League at 14 in 1949. Barton was then recruited by Myrtleford in the Ovens & Murray Football League in 1954. After two season with Myrtleford, Hawthorn recruited Barton and he made his senior VFL debut in round seven, 1956 against Fitzroy at Glenferrie Oval. Barton was named as Hawthorn's best player in Hawthorn's 1956 round eight clash against Carlton and Barton's second VFL match. George Raymond Barton (born 6 September 1977 in Tamworth, New South Wales) is an Australian sport shooter. He won a bronze medal in men's skeet pair shooting, along with his brother Clive Barton, at the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, with a total score of 183 points. Barton made his official debut for the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, where he placed twenty-ninth in men's skeet shooting, with a total score of 118 points, tying his position with Egypt's Mostafa Hamdy. At the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, Barton competed for the second time, as a 30-year-old, in men's skeet shooting, along with his teammate Paul Rahman.
