Gary Lewis (musician)
Gary Lewis (born Gary Harold Lee Levitch; July 31, 1945) is an American musician who was the leader of Gary Lewis & the Playboys. Early life Gary Lewis is the son of Jerry Lewis and singer Patti Palmer. His mother, who was performing at the time with the Ted Fio Rito Orchestra, intended to name him after her favorite actor, Cary Grant, but her son became "Gary" as the result of a clerical error. He received a set of drums as a gift for his 15th birthday in 1960. When he was 18, Lewis formed the band "Gary and the Playboys" with four friends. Joking at the lateness of bandmates to practice, Lewis referred to them as " playboys", and the name stuck. Lewis was the drummer, and Dave Walker was the singer and guitarist. Gary Lewis (born January 14, 1961) is an American former professional football player who was a defensive tackle in the Canadian Football League (CFL) for ten seasons. Previously, he played one season in the National Football League (NFL) for the New Orleans Saints. He won the Grey Cup in 1989 with the Saskatchewan Roughriders. Early life Born and raised in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Lewis played scholastically at Millwood High School, where he was a four-year letterman playing both sides of the line. Garry Lewis Jr. (born August 25, 1967) is an American former professional football cornerback who played four seasons in the National Football League (NFL) with the Los Angeles Raiders, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Kansas City Chiefs. He played college football at Alcorn State University and was selected by the Raiders in the seventh round of the 1990 NFL draft. Garry Lewis (born August 26, 1986, in Orange Park, Florida) is an American retired soccer player who is currently an assistant coach at the University of the Cumberlands. Career Youth and college Lewis attended Orange Park High School, played club soccer for the Clay County Soccer Club and West Kendall. As a youth player Lewis was a Three-Time NSCAA/adidas Youth American.
