Carrillo Gantner
Carrillo Baillieu Gantner is an American-Australian cultural leader and philanthropist, noted for his work in the state of Victoria. He is a member of the Melbourne retailing Myer family. Early life Carrillo was born in San Francisco, California, the son of Neilma Gantner with philanthropist and author Vallejo Gantner, and grandson of Merlyn Myer and Sidney Myer, founder of the Myer retail chain. Career Carrillo's most well-known achievement lies in the area of founding theatres and theatre companies. He founded the Playbox Theatre in 1976 and in the late 1980s was the driving force for the building of the Malthouse Theatre complex which opened in 1990. He was president of the Myer Foundation 2004-2010 and was in 2008 Chairman of the Sidney Myer Fund, the Myer family's two philanthropic arms. Edward James Gantner Jr. (February 4, 1959 – December 31, 1990) was an American professional wrestler and football player who was nicknamed "the Bull". Early life Edward James Ganter Jr. was born in Orlando, Florida, the youngest of four children. Ed was the only son with three older sisters. By the time he was three years old, his father would throw him a football hard enough to knock him down, only to get back up and throw it back. His mother and sisters never recall Gantner having a knack for football. He was considered a "puny little runt," all the way through junior high school. Gantner's life began to change around age twelve when his parents separated. His father moved out of the house, while his mother went back to school. Jim Gantner
James Elmer Gantner (born January 5, 1953) is a former Major League Baseball player who spent his entire career with the Milwaukee Brewers (1976–92). Background Gantner was born on January 5, 1953, in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, and grew up in Eden, Wisconsin. He was one of nine children born to Elmer and Erma Gantner. He attended Campbellsport High School in nearby Campbellsport, where he played both baseball and basketball. He played his college baseball at the University of Wisconsin–Oshkosh (UWO), a small college baseball power in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) at the time. While playing two years at UWO, he was All-America honorable mention both seasons, and his teams finished third and fifth in the 1973 and 1974 NAIA World Series. Joseph Gantner
Joseph Gantner (Baden, Canton Aargau, Switzerland 11 September 1896—Basel 7 April 1988) was a Swiss art historian. His father Alfred Gantner, a manager at Brown Boveri, and his wife Marie (née Wächter), a midwife. In 1932 Joseph Gantner married Maria Hanna Dreyfus. Gantner's studies took him to the universities at Zurich, Basel, Geneva, and finally to Munich, where he completed a doctorate in 1920 under Heinrich Wölfflin (1864–1945). He also spent a semester in Rome with Adolfo Venturi. His ''Habilitationsschrift'' was completed in 1926. From 1922 or 1923 to 1927 he was Editor of the periodical ''Das Werk'' and later also of ''Das neue Frankfurt''. From 1927 until 1932 Gantner taught at the ''Kunstschule'' in Frankfurt-am-Main. Martin Gantner is a German operatic baritone. He made his professional opera debut in Koblenz as Count Almaviva in ''The Marriage of Figaro''. Matei Gantner
Matei Gantner (1934–2023) was a Romanian international table tennis player. Gantner won a bronze medal at the 1956 World Table Tennis Championships in the Swaythling Cup (men's team event) with Toma Reiter, Tiberiu Harasztosi, Paul Pesch and Mircea Popescu for Romania. He also won the national Championships seven times, three in singles (1954, 1958, 1960), two in doubles (1955, 1957 with Toma Reiter) and two in mixed (1957 and 1958 with Ella Zeller in addition to a bronze medal in the 1958 European Championships. Neilma Bailieu Gantner (7 November 1922 – 15 June 2015) was an Australian philanthropist and author who wrote as Neilma Sidney. Early life and education Born in San Francisco, California on 7 November 1922, Neilma Baillieu Myer was the elder daughter of Merlyn (née Baillieu) and Sidney Myer. The family moved back to Melbourne, Australia in 1929. In 1952, following her divorce, she studied for a Bachelor of Arts in English literature and creative writing at Stanford University. Career Gantner returned to Melbourne with her two sons in 1954. In 1955 she was a member of the Victorian board of the International Social Service.
