Gabriel Luis Fernández Arenas (; born 10 July 1983), known as Gabi (), is a Spanish former professional footballer who played as a defensive midfielder, currently manager of Segunda División club Real Zaragoza. He made 429 La Liga appearances, mostly in two spells at Atlético Madrid interspersed with a period at Zaragoza, winning domestic and European silverware with the former; during his ten-year stint at the club, he amassed competitive totals of 417 matches and ten goals. He also competed professionally in Qatar, with Al Sadd. Gabi represented Spain at youth level. Club career Atlético Madrid Gabi was born in Madrid. The 2010–11 La Liga (known as the ''Liga BBVA'' for sponsorship reasons) was the 80th season of La Liga since its establishment. The campaign began on 28 August 2010, and concluded on 21 May 2011. A total of 20 teams contested the league, 17 of which already partook in the 2009–10 season, and three of which were promoted from the Segunda División. The 2008–09 Segunda División season (known from that season as Liga Adelante for sponsorship reasons) was the 78th since its establishment. The first matches of the season were played on 30 August 2008, and the season ended on 21 June 2009. Real Zaragoza, Real Murcia and Levante were the teams relegated from La Liga the previous season. Alicante, Girona, Huesca and Rayo Vallecano were the teams promoted from Segunda División B the previous season.
