Great Red Spot
The Great Red Spot is a persistent high-pressure area, high-pressure region in the atmosphere of Jupiter, producing an anticyclonic storm that is the largest in the Solar System. It is the most recognizable feature on Jupiter, owing to its red-orange color whose origin is still unknown. Located 22 Degree (angle), degrees south of Jupiter's equator, it produces wind-speeds up to . It was first observed in September 1831, with 60 recorded observations between then and 1878, when continuous observations began. A similar spot was observed from 1665 to 1713; if this is the same storm, it has existed for at least years, but a study from 2024 suggests this is not the case. Observation history First observations The Great Red Spot may have existed before 1665, but it could be that the present spot was first seen only in 1830, and was well studied only after a prominent appearance in 1879. The storm that was seen in the 17th century may have been different from the storm that exists ...

Gifted Rating Scales
The Gifted Rating Scale (GRS) is a scholastic assessment for school children. It is used mostly for Gifted & Talented admissions. It is administered by a teacher who knows the child well. The teacher rates specific gifted behaviors that they have observed over time. History Rating scales have developed since the early 1970s to assess general child psychometrics and psychopathology. The Gifted Rating Scales, first published in 2003, are authored by Steven Ira Pfeiffer (1950-), and Tania Jarosewich. The GRS is completed through teacher evaluations and measures giftedness on multiple scales. The GRS-P, designed for children in preschool and kindergarten, evaluates children on five scales: #Intellectual ability #Academic ability #Creativity #Artistic talent #Motivation The GRS-S, designed for children in grades 1–8, evaluates giftedness in children on six scales: #Intellectual ability #Academic ability #Creativity #Artistic talent #Leadership ability #Motivation Notwithstandi ...

Gamma-ray Spectrometer
A gamma-ray spectrometer (GRS) is an instrument for measuring the distribution (or spectrum—see Gamma spectroscopy#Scintillation detectors, figure) of the intensity of gamma radiation versus the energy of each photon. The study and analysis of gamma-ray spectra for scientific and technical use is called gamma spectroscopy, and gamma-ray spectrometers are the instruments which observe and collect such data. Because the energy of each photon of EM radiation is proportional to its frequency, gamma rays have sufficient energy that they are typically observed by counting individual photons. Some notable gamma-ray spectrometers are Gammasphere, AGATA (gamma-ray detector), AGATA, and Argonne Tandem Linear Accelerator System, GRETINA. Gamma-ray spectroscopy Atomic atomic nucleus, nuclei have an energy-level structure somewhat analogous to the energy levels of atoms, so that they may emit (or absorb) photons of particular energies, much as atoms do, but at energies that are thousands ...

Global Resource Serialization
Global Resource Serialization (GRS) is the component within the IBM z/OS operating system responsible for enabling fair access to serially reusable computing resources, such as datasets and tape drives or virtual resources, such as lists, queues, and control blocks. Programs can request exclusive access to a resource (which means that program and all subsequent requesting programs are blocked until that program is given access to the resource), usually requested when a program needs to update the resource or shared access (which means that multiple programs can be given access to the resource), usually requested when a program only needs to query the state of the resource. GRS manages all requests in FIFO (first in/first out) order.IBM Knowledge Center: https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/zos/2.5.0?topic=ieasysxx-grs Scoping GRS manages resources at three different levels of scoping: #STEP - this level is for resources that exist within a single MVS address space. Only threads (tasks) ...

Gamma Ray Spectrometer (2001 Mars Odyssey)
The Gamma Ray Spectrometer (GRS) is a gamma-ray spectrometer on the ''2001 Mars Odyssey'' spacecraft, a space probe orbiting the planet Mars since 2001. Part of NASA's Mars Surveyor 2001 program, it returns geological data about Mars's surface such as identifying elements and the location of water. It is maintained by the Lunar and Planetary Laboratory at the University of Arizona in the United States. This instrument has mapped the distribution surface hydrogen, thought to trace water in the surface layer of Martian soil. GRS specifications The Gamma Ray Spectrometer weighs and uses 32 watts of power. Along with its cooler, it measures . The detector is a photodiode made of a germanium crystal, reverse biased to about 3 kilovolts, mounted at the end of a boom to minimize interferences from the gamma radiation produced by the spacecraft itself. Its spatial resolution is about . The neutron spectrometer is . The high-energy neutron detector measures . The instrument's ce ...
