GRC '14, short for Giessen Rijswijk Combinatie 2014, is an association football club from Giessen, Netherlands. Home games are played at Sportpark Almbos. It plays in the Eerste Klasse. History GRC '14 was founded on July 1, 2014 as a merger of VV Giessen (founded 16 July 1963) and Rijswijkse Boys (founded 6 July 1945). Giessen, Netherlands
Giessen is a village in the Dutch province of North Brabant. It is located in the municipality of Altena, about 7 km southeast of Gorinchem. History The village was first mentioned in 1178 as Giscen. It is named after a river, however the etymology is unclear. Giessen developed in the Middle Ages along the Afgedamde Maas. The Dutch Reformed church dates was built on a ''terp'' (artificial living hill). It was constructed in the 14th century. In 1755, the tower collapsed due to frequently flooding. The church was enlarged in 1856. Giessen was home to 360 people in 1840. Giessen was a separate municipality until 1973, when it became a part of the former municipality of Woudrichem. Giessen nowadays forms a single urban area with Rijswijk. Sights Giessen is part of the New Dutch Water Line. Fort Giessen has been preserved, and was constructed between 1878 and 1881. Eerste Klasse
The Eerste Klasse ( en, First Class) started as the 1st tier of football in the Netherlands and is now the 6th tier. The league is divided into eleven divisions, six for Saturday clubs and five for Sunday clubs. These divisions correspond to the six districts of the Royal Dutch Football Association: each district organises a Saturday competition and a Sunday competition, except for South II, which only has a Sunday competition. Each division consists of 14 teams. The champion of the Eerste Klasse divisions are promoted to the Vierde Divisie (formerly Hoofdklasse). Furthermore, a season is divided into two periods ( nl, periodes) of eight matches each. The winners of these periods qualify for promotion playoffs, provided they finish in the top nine overall in the season.
