G-flat major is a major scale based on G♭ (musical note), G, consisting of the pitches G, A♭ (musical note), A, B♭ (musical note), B, C♭ (musical note), C, D♭ (musical note), D, E♭ (musical note), E, and F (musical note), F. Its key signature has six Flat (music), flats. Its relative key, relative minor is E-flat minor (or enharmonically D-sharp minor). Its parallel key, parallel minor, G-flat minor, is usually replaced by F-sharp minor, since G-flat minor's two Double-flat, double-flats make it generally impractical to use. Its direct enharmonic equivalent, F-sharp major, contains six sharps. In Western musical notation, a key signature is a set of Sharp (music), sharp (), Flat (music), flat (), or rarely, Natural (music), natural () symbols placed on the staff (music), staff at the beginning of a section of music. The initial key signature in a piece is placed immediately after the clef at the beginning of the first line. If the piece contains a section in a different Key (music), key, the new key signature is placed at the beginning of that section.
