"Free for All" is an episode of the allegory, allegorical British science fiction TV series, ''The Prisoner''. It was written and directed by Patrick McGoohan (though he used the pseudonym "Paddy Fitz" for the writer credit) and the second episode to be produced. It was the fourth episode to be broadcast in the UK on ITV (TV network), ITV (ATV Midlands and Grampian Television, Grampian) on Friday 20 October 1967 and first aired in the United States on CBS on Saturday 29 June 1968. The episode stars Patrick McGoohan as Number Six (The Prisoner), Number Six and features Eric Portman as Number Two (The Prisoner), Number Two . The Prisoner
''The Prisoner'' is a 1967 British television series about an unnamed British intelligence agent who is abducted and imprisoned in a mysterious coastal village, where his captors designate him as Number Six and try to find out why he abruptly resigned from his job. Patrick McGoohan played the lead role as Number Six. The series was created by McGoohan with possible contributions from George Markstein. Episode plots have elements of science fiction, allegory, and psychological drama, as well as spy fiction. It was produced by Everyman Films for distribution by Lew Grade's ITC Entertainment. A single series of 17 episodes was filmed between September 1966 and January 1968, with exterior location filming in Portmeirion, Wales. Charles Kenneth Anton Benda (3 June 1902 – 26 July 1978) was an English actor often on television. Lewis Greifer
Lewis Greifer (19 December 1915 – 18 March 2003) was an English writer for television, film, and radio. Greifer was born in London, England. After wartime service in the Royal Air Force (RAF), he pursued a career in journalism and joined the London ''Evening Standard'', where he worked from 1952 to 1956. He contributed sketches for radio, including for ''The Goon Show'' amongst others. In 1969, he diversified somewhat and devised ''Who-Dun-It'' for ATV, an audience participation series. Greifer also wrote episodes of ''The Prisoner'' (" The General", 1967), ''Crossroads'', and the initial draft of the Tom Baker ''Doctor Who'' story ''Pyramids of Mars''. ITV Granada, formerly known as Granada Television, is the ITV franchisee for the North West of England and Isle of Man. From 1956 to 1968 it broadcast to both the north west and Yorkshire but only on weekdays as ABC Weekend Television was its weekend counterpart. Southern Television was the ITV broadcasting licence holder for the South and South-East of England from 30 August 1958 to 31 December 1981. The company was launched as 'Southern Television Limited' and the title 'Southern Television' was consistently used on-air throughout its life. However, in 1966, during the application process for contracts running from 1968, the company renamed itself 'Southern Independent Television Limited', a title which was used until 1980 when the company reverted to its original corporate name. Associated Television was the original name of the British broadcaster ATV, part of the Independent Television (ITV) network.
