Flammé (vexillology)
Flammé (German ''geflammt'') is a term in vexillology for a flag design that places a coat of arms in the center of the flag, filling the remaining space on the flag with flame-like designs. The design was used specifically in the Old Swiss Confederacy during the 17th and 18th centuries, where there was no difference between coat of arms and flags, and the same design was used for both. Regiments of Swiss mercenaries during the 18th century, especially those in French service, often used ''flammé'' designs with the Swiss Cross The national flag of Switzerland (german: Schweizerfahne; french: drapeau de la Suisse; it, bandiera svizzera; rm, bandiera da la Svizra) displays a white cross in the centre of a square red field. ''Flammen'' (''Flames'') is a one-act opera by Franz Schreker, on a libretto by Dora Leen, pseudonym of Dora Pollak (born 23 October 1880, died Auschwitz c. 1942). Composition history Dora Pollak's father, the well-known Viennese doctor Siegmund Pollak, was personal physician to Ferdinand von Saar, an important Austrian literary figure and also Schreker's friend and mentor in Vienna. Performance history The opera was first given in a concert performance, with piano accompaniment only, on 24 April 1902 at the Bösendorfer-Saal in Vienna. Schreker had copies of the libretto and vocal score printed to try to promote the work but it met with little interest from the conductors and opera houses he sent it to. The complete opera remained unpublished during Schreker's lifetime. However, Schreker did have ...

The opera had its world premiere at the old National Theatre (Národní Divadlo na Veveří) in Brno on 27 January 1932 in Czech under the title ''Plameny''. It was not heard again until the mid-1990s, when it was performed in its German translation by Max Brod as ''Flammen''. Its story is a surrealist retelling of the Don Juan legend with elements from the legend of the Wandering Jew, and heavily influenced by Freudian psychology. Unlike the title character in Mozart's ''Don Giovanni'' based on the same legend, Don Juan is not punished by being dragged down to Hell, but instead is condemned to live forever. Background and performance history Not long after Schulhoff's return to Prague in 1923, he met Leoš Janáček's friend and biographer Max Brod, and discussed with him the possibility of writing an opera based on the Don Jua ...

Feuer Und Flamme
''Feuer und Flamme'' (German for "Fire and Flame", with the additional figurative meaning of "great enthusiasm"), released in 1985, is the third album by German pop band Nena and the fourth studio album of its singer, Gabriele "Nena" Kerner. The album was a success, reaching in Germany. Prompted by the success of ''99 Luftballons'' (1984), which included English-language versions of songs from the band's first two albums, Nena recreated ''Feuer und Flamme'' in English as ''It's All in the Game'' (1985), with lyrics by Canadian singer Lisa Dalbello. The experiment failed commercially and was not repeated with the band's next album. Gabriele Kerner recorded a new bilingual German-English version of "Anyplace, Anywhere, Anytime" with Kim Wilde in 2002. The duet became a big hit in many European countries, including Germany, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Switzerland and the Netherlands. The fifth and final single from the album was "Du kennst die Liebe nicht", however, for the singl ...
