Faculty Of Music, University Of Cambridge
The University of Cambridge was the first institution in the world to award a dedicated Bachelor of Music degree. The Faculty of Music was established in 1947, and has this since grown into an academic centre covering all the aspects of study and research within in music. The most recent Research Assessment Exercise (2008) judged research at the Faculty to be in the highest possible category (4*) for 45% of the faculty member's research output. According to The Guardian's University Guide 2013, the Faculty has the highest ratio of staff to students in any of the top-10 institutions in the country where one can study music in the UK. Nicholas Cook

Katharine Ellis
Katharine Ellis, is a British musicologist and academic, specialising in music history. Since 2017, she has been the 1684 Professor of Music at the University of Cambridge. She previously taught at the Open University, at Royal Holloway, University of London and at the School of Advanced Study, University of London, before serving as Stanley Hugh Badock Professor of Music at the University of Bristol (2013–2017). Iain Fenlon
Iain Alexander Fenlon (born 26 October 1949 in Prestbury, Cheshire) is a British musicologist who specializes in music from 1450–1650; particularly Renaissance and early Baroque music from Italy. Fenlon was born to Albert Fenlon and Joan Fenlon (née Rainey). Marina Frolova-Walker
Marina Frolova-Walker FBA (russian: link=no, Марина Фролова-Уокер; born 1966) is a Russian-born British musicologist and music historian, who specialises in German Romanticism, Russian and Soviet music, and nationalism in music. She is Professor of Music History at the University of Cambridge and Director of Studies in Music at Clare College, Cambridge. In June 2019 it was announced that she would be the 36th Professor of Music at Gresham College. She has authored several books and a number of academic articles. Alexander Goehr
Peter Alexander Goehr (; born 10 August 1932) is an English composer and academic. Goehr was born in Berlin in 1932, the son of the conductor and composer Walter Goehr, a pupil of Arnold Schoenberg. In his early twenties he emerged as a central figure in the Manchester School of post-war British composers. In 1955–56 he joined Olivier Messiaen's masterclass in Paris. Although in the early sixties Goehr was considered a leader of the avant-garde, his oblique attitude to modernism—and to any movement or school whatsoever—soon became evident. Christopher Hogwood
Christopher Jarvis Haley Hogwood (10 September 194124 September 2014) was an English conductor, harpsichordist, writer, and musicologist. Founder of the early music ensemble the Academy of Ancient Music, he was an authority on historically informed performance and a leading figure in the early music revival of the late 20th century. Early life and education Born in Nottingham, Hogwood went to The Skinners' School, Royal Tunbridge Wells, and then studied Music and Classics at Pembroke College, Cambridge, graduating in 1964. He went on to study performance and conducting under Raymond Leppard, Mary Potts and Thurston Dart, and later with Rafael Puyana and Gustav Leonhardt. Robin Holloway
Robin Greville Holloway (born 19 October 1943) is an English composer, academic and writer. Early life Holloway was born in Leamington Spa. From 1953 to 1957, he was a chorister at St Paul's Cathedral and was educated at King's College School, where his father Robert was Head of the Art Department.Northcott, Bayan, "Robin Holloway" (August 1974). John Hopkins (composer)
John Hopkins (born in 1949, at Polegate in East Sussex) is a British composer. Education Hopkins studied at University College Cardiff. There his teachers included Alun Hoddinott and Arnold Whittall. He also took composition lessons with Peter Maxwell Davies. He graduated in 2000 from University of Sussex with a D.Phil. Susan Rankin
Susan Kathleen Rankin, FBA, FSA, is a musicologist. Since 2006, she has been Professor of Medieval Music at the University of Cambridge; she has also been a Fellow of Emmanuel College, Cambridge, since 1981 (having previously been a research fellow there for three years). Rankin completed her undergraduate degree at Newnham College, Cambridge, in 1975, and then graduated from King's College London with a Master of Music degree the following year; in 1982, she was awarded a doctorate by the University of Cambridge.
