FIBA Women's EuroBasket 2019
The 2019 EuroBasket Women, European Women Basketball Championship, commonly called EuroBasket Women 2019, was the 37th edition of the continental tournament in women's basketball, sanctioned by the FIBA Europe. The tournament was co-held in Latvia and Serbia from 27 June to 7 July 2019. Spain won their second consecutive and fourth overall title after defeating France 86–66 in the final. Venues Qualification Qualified teams Draw The final draw took place on 12 December 2018 in Belgrade, Serbia. The mascots Pick and Roll made their first appearance in the draw. Seedings The official seedings for the FIBA Women's EuroBasket 2019 Draw were established on 10 December 2018. Co-Hosts Latvia and Serbia were each allowed to select one other team to play in the opposite group they were hosting but not playing in. Čair Sports Center ( sr, Спортски центар Чаир, Sportski centar Čair), commonly known as Čair Hall ( sr, Хала Чаир, Hala Čair) is an indoor sporting arena located in Niš, Serbia. The seating capacity of the arena is 4,800 for sports events and 6,500 at concerts. It is home to the KK Konstantin basketball team, RK Železničar 1949 handball team and OK Niš volleyball team. History The sports center "22 December" was opened in 1973, as largest sports center in the city of Niš. Later, its name was changed to "Čair Sports Center". It was completely reconstructed in 2011 for the needs of 2012 European Men's Handball Championship, as it was named one of tournament's venues. The 2013 European Women Basketball Championship, commonly called EuroBasket Women 2013, was the 34th regional championship held by FIBA Europe. The competition was held in France from 15–30 June 2013. This was the fourth time that the EuroBasket Women has been hosted by France. Spain defeated France 70–69 in the final to win the title. The 1993 European Women Basketball Championship, commonly called EuroBasket Women 1993, was the 24th regional championship held by FIBA Europe. The competition was held in Italy and took place from 8 June to 13 June 1993. won the gold medal and the silver medal while won the bronze. The 2011 European Women Basketball Championship, commonly called EuroBasket Women 2011, was the 33rd regional championship held by FIBA Europe. The competition was held in Poland from 2011. This was the 4th time that the EuroBasket Women was hosted by Poland. Russia won its third title after defeating Turkey in the final. It was Russia's 6th final after the dissolution of the Soviet Union, while Turkey played final for the 1st time. The 2015 EuroBasket Women, European Women Basketball Championship, commonly called EuroBasket Women 2015, was the 35th edition of the continental tournament in women's basketball, sanctioned by the FIBA Europe. The tournament was co-held in Hungary, which hosted the championship for the fifth time after 1950, 1964, 1983 and 1997, and Romania which hosted it for the second time after 1966, on 11–28 June 2015. FIBA Women's World Ranking
The FIBA Women's World Ranking is the FIBA's rankings of national women's basketball teams. FIBA ranks women's national teams in both senior and junior competitions. It also publishes combined rankings for all competitions involving both sexes. Calculation Since November 2019, FIBA uses a game-based system similar to the FIBA Men's World Ranking, men's ranking. Until 2019 FIBA still uses the competition-based system to determine its women's rankings. As noted above, this system was also used to determine men's rankings prior to 2017. FIBA has announced that it will introduce a game-based ranking procedure similar to that currently used for men's rankings in the indeterminate future. Arena Riga ( lv, Arēna Rīga) is an indoor arena in Riga, Latvia. It is primarily used for ice hockey, basketball and concerts. Arena Riga holds a maximum of 14,500 and was opened on 15 February 2006. It was built to be used as one of the venues for the 2006 IIHF World Championship, the other being Skonto Arena. The arena was designed by the Canadian company SCI Architects and Latvian firms SIA Merks and SIA Nams. History The 11,000-seat arena was constructed as a requirement for hosting the 2006 IIHF World Championship.
