Féile (music Festival)
Féile (; "Festival") was a music festival held in the Republic of Ireland between 1990 and 1997, originally known as The Trip to Tipp. The original venue was in Semple Stadium in Thurles, County Tipperary, hence the nicknames of "The Trip to Tipp". In 1995, it was held in Páirc Uí Chaoimh in Cork city; Féile 96 was indoors at the Point Depot in Dublin. Féile was generally a three-day festival held over the bank holiday weekend in early August. In 1996 it was in July; in 1997, it was reduced to a single day in late August. The festival was a progression from the Siamsa Cois Laoi held in Páirc Uí Chaoimh in the 1980s, and the Slane Concerts at Slane Castle, which had been on hiatus since 1987 but would return from 1992. The Oxegen festival, first held as Witnness at Fairyhouse Racecourse in 2000, was seen as filling the gap left by the ending of Féile, and had the same promoters, MCD. Energy Orchard
Energy Orchard were a guitar-based rock band of the late 1980s and early 1990s, from Belfast, Northern Ireland. Fronted by Bap Kennedy (brother of singer-songwriter Brian Kennedy), their style drew heavily on the influence of Van Morrison and other rhythm and blues acts, but incorporated traditional elements of Irish folk music. The band emerged from the remnants of one other Belfast-based punk/ new wave band, 10 Past 7. Career Following the band's early concerts at the New Pegasus they were signed to MCA on the recommendation of Steve Earle. Something Happens
Something Happens are an Irish pop rock band whose heyday was the late 1980s and early 1990s. The band's lineup consists of Tom Dunne (vocals), Ray Harman (guitar), Alan Byrne (bass) and Eamonn Ryan (drums). An earlier incarnation of the band was called 'The Dazzmen' and was fronted by singer Martin Lynch who left the band and became the frontman for another early 1980s Dublin band 'The Cracker Factory'. After Lynch's departure the band recruited vocalist Tom Dunne and became 'Something Happens'. That Petrol Emotion
That Petrol Emotion was a London-based rock band formed in 1984 by musicians from Northern Ireland with an American vocalist. They recorded five albums between 1986 and 1994, exploring an eclectic fusion of indie rock, post-punk, garage rock and dance-punk, which anticipated both the dance-pop era of the early 1990s and the post-punk revival of the early 2000s. They were described by ''Rolling Stone'' magazine as "The Clash crossed with Creedence", and by the ''New York Times'' as "a youthful Rolling Stones" crossed with a "revved-up Television". Maria McKee
Maria Luisa McKee (born August 17, 1964) is an American singer-songwriter. She is best known for her work with Lone Justice, her 1990 song " Show Me Heaven", and her song "If Love Is a Red Dress (Hang Me in Rags)" from soundtrack of the film ''Pulp Fiction''. Early life Maria McKee was born in Los Angeles in 1964. She grew up in a bohemian family and is the half-sister of Bryan MacLean (1946–1998), the guitarist of the band Love. Music McKee was a founding member of the cowpunk and proto- Americana band Lone Justice in 1982, with whom she released two albums. In 1983, she sang the song " Never Be You" for the soundtrack of the movie " Streets of Fire" (1984). No Sweat were an Irish rock band, active during the late 1980s and early 1990s. They are best remembered for their single "Heart and Soul" ( produced by the Def Leppard frontman Joe Elliott), which topped the Irish Singles Chart for two weeks in June 1989. Singles Following "Heart and Soul" reaching number one in 1989, the group had two further Irish hits in 1990 with "Tear Down the Walls" (No. 4) and "On the Edge" (No. 11). 1990 also saw the release of their self-titled debut album, which was produced by Keith Olsen for Pogo Logo Corp., and was recorded at the Goodnight L.A. studio in Van Nuys, California, United States. Big Country
Big Country are a Scottish Rock music, rock band formed in Dunfermline, Fife, in 1981. The height of the band's popularity was in the early to mid 1980s, although they have retained a cult following for many years since. The band's music incorporated Scottish folk and martial music styles, and the band engineered their guitar-driven sound to evoke the sound of bagpipes, fiddles, and other traditional folk music, folk instruments. Mary Black
Mary Black (born 23 May 1955) is an Irish folk singer. She is well known as an interpreter of both traditional folk and modern material which has made her a major recording artist in her native Ireland. Background Mary Black was born into a musical family on Charlemont Street in Dublin, Ireland, and had four siblings. She was educated at St Louis High School, Rathmines. Her father was a fiddler, who came from Rathlin Island off the coast of Northern Ireland, and her mother was a singer. Her brothers Shay and Michael Black have their own musical group called the Black Brothers and her younger sister Frances would go on to achieve great success as a singer in the 1990s.
