Phoenix (mythology)
The phoenix is a Legendary creature, legendary immortal bird that cyclically regenerates or is otherwise born again. Originating in Greek mythology, it has analogs in many cultures, such as Egyptian mythology, Egyptian and Persian mythology. Associated with the sun, a phoenix obtains new life by rising from the ashes of its predecessor. Some legends say it dies in a show of flames and combustion, while others say that it simply dies and decomposes before being born again. "From the Ashes" is a trade paperback which reprints issues #168-176 of the comic book ''Uncanny X-Men'', published by Marvel Comics in 1990. While most trade paperbacks of the time reprinted a single story arc, ''From the Ashes'' collected three different story arcs and three single-issue stories. The stories were all written by Chris Claremont and most of them were drawn by Paul Smith and Bob Wiacek, though Walt Simonson was a guest penciller on one issue and John Romita Jr. took over as regular penciller on the series towards the end of the collected set of issues. The stories introduced Madelyne Pryor, Lockheed, the Morlocks, and Valerie Cooper, and featured Rogue joining the team. Issue #175 was a giant-sized "20th anniversary of the X-Men" issue. ''Guitars'' is the 19th studio album written and performed by British musician Mike Oldfield, released in 1999. The concept of the album was to only perform it using guitar-like instruments. Background Oldfield plays all the music on the album, using only guitars of various types. This includes using Roland MIDI-equipped guitars to trigger drum samples and produce string-like sounds. ''From the Ashes'' is the seventh studio album by the American punk rock band Pennywise. Background and recording Pennywise released their sixth studio album, '' Land of the Free?'', in June 2001. The band promoted it with a short stint on the Warped Tour, a Midwestern tour of the United States, and shows in Australia and Japan until April 2002. After this, guitarist Fletcher Dragge spent three months writing material for their next album. In November 2002, it was reported that they had spent a few months in a studio, having completed 15 demos. In January 2003, the band began recording their next album; sessions continued into April 2003. Sessions were held at Stall #2 in Redondo Beach, California; Darian Rundall and the band produced the proceedings. Drummer Byron McMackin said 14 songs were recorded from a potential pool of over 30.
