	Franklin, Franklin County, New York Franklin is a town located in Franklin County, New York, United States. As of the 2010 census, the town had a population of 1,140. The town is in the southeastern part of the county, in the Adirondack Region of New York. History The first settlement in the town was Franklin Falls (1827). This community burned in 1852. The town of Franklin was founded in 1836 from part of the town of Bellmont. The town was used to relocate former slaves, in part the work of Gerrit Smith, an abolitionist, and in part the result of Civil War veterans inviting freed slaves to return home with them. The Loon Lake Mountain Fire Observation Station was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2008. Geography Franklin is the third-largest town in Franklin County. 	Franklin, Delaware County, New York Franklin is a town in Delaware County, New York, United States. The population was 2,288 at the 2020 census. The town contains a village also named Franklin. The village is the population center. The town is on the county's northern border. History Little is known of the area prior to the American Revolution. Areas along the waterways were occupied by bands of Lenape (Delaware) people primarily, with remnants of other tribes who had been pushed west across the Hudson by English colonial development. Hunters and fur trappers also visited the area. After the war, speculators, often based in New York City, bought various land patents sight unseen, as they were lured by dreams of profit-taking as land was resold to settlers. Hundreds of settlers had moved into the town of Harpersfield in what is now Delaware County. 	Franklin (village), New York Franklin is a village in Delaware County of the U.S. state of New York. As of the 2010 census, the village population was 374. The village is in the town of Franklin. The area was not settled by European Americans until after the Revolutionary War, when pioneers came from New England, downstate, and as new immigrants. The area was mostly rural, and population declined in the late 20th century due to urbanization elsewhere. Retirees and people with second homes have also appreciated Franklin. The Franklin Village Historic District and New Stone Hall are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. 	Williamstown, New York Williamstown is a town in Oswego County, New York, United States. The population was 1,277 at the 2010 census. The Town of Williamstown is on the county's eastern boundary. History After the Revolutionary War, Williamstown did not exist until plans were made to settle west of the Hudson River. In 1791 Nicholas and John Roosevelt purchased 525,000 that covered most of Oswego, Oneida, and a small chunk of Herkimer counties known as the Roosevelt purchase. In 1794 it was then purchased by George Scriba, which then became the Scriba Patent. Scriba then broke up most of the land that he purchased into townships and given what is now Williamstown the name Franklin, Township No.5. Ichabod Comstock was the first to settle in Franklin in 1801. Judge Henry Williams relocated to Franklin from Camden, New York in 1802 and shortly after Williams came to Franklin the people renamed the town Williamstown in Williams’s honor.
