Bernd Franke (composer)
Bernd Franke (born 14 January 1959) is a German composer. Career Franke was born in Weißenfels/Saale. From 1975 to 1981, he studied musical composition in Leipzig at the University of Music and Theatre Leipzig with Siegfried Thiele and conducting with Wolf-Dieter Hauschild. As a founder, he presided over the "Junge Musik" group in Leipzig from 1980 to 1983. From 1981 to 1985 he was a master student at the Akademie der Künste der DDR in Berlin and in 1988 a participant in the "''Composer Workshop of the Gaudeamus Foundation Amsterdam''", where he worked with Ton de Leeuw and Chu Wen Chung, among others. Later, in 1989, Franke was able to deepen his studies at the "Leonard Bernstein Fellowship of the Tanglewood Music Center". There he worked not only with Leonard Bernstein, but also with composer Lukas Foss, violinist Louis Krasner and composer and conductor Oliver Knussen. Alfred Franke
Alfred Franke (20 September 1918 – 9 September 1942) was a German Luftwaffe ace and recipient of the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross during World War II. The Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross was awarded to recognise extreme battlefield bravery or successful military leadership. On 9 September 1942, Alfred Franke was killed north of Stalingrad after dog-fighting with a Soviet Il-2 Shturmovik flown by ''Kapitan'' Pavel S. Vinogradov. He was posthumously awarded the Knight's Cross on 29 October 1942 and was also promoted to Lieutenant. During his career he was credited with 60 aerial victories. 4 on the Western Front and 56 on the Eastern Front. Summary of career According to US historian David T. Gustav Franke
Gustav Franke (born 4 December 1937 in Grottkau, Germany), is a former German International motorcycle trials rider. Franke was FIM Trial Challenge Henry Groutars Champion in 1965 and 1966. Biography Franke was the top trials rider in Germany throughout most of the 1960s. He won his first national title in 1962 and defended it in 1963. Franke competed in the inaugural Challenge Henry Groutars Championship in 1964 finishing runner up to British Greeves rider Don Smith. Franke had won the opening round in Belgium but the French and German rounds went Smith, and with them the title. On the national scene Franke was once again German Trials Champion. In 1965 Franke won the championship ahead of fellow Zündapp rider Andreas Brandl. He retained the title in 1966, this time holding off Don Smith. He won the German national title both years. He founded the Günther Galerie (later known as Galerie Günther Franke) in Munich. Friedrich Wilhelm Franke
Friedrich Wilhelm Franke (21 June 1862 – 3 April 1932) was a German organist. Born in Barmen (today a district of Wuppertal), Franke worked as a teacher for pipe organ, harmony and counterpoint at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln. Among other things, he was organist for the Gürzenich Orchestra Cologne and numerous Rhenish music festivals. His life's work was dedicated to the efforts of renewal within the evangelical church music. He has rendered outstanding services to the revival of old Protestant forms of church music. Among his students were the church musicians Father OSB and Alfred Sittard. Franke died in Cologne at the age of 69.
