Verdon Gorge
The Verdon Gorge (French language, French: ''Gorges du Verdon'' ) is a river canyon located in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur Regions of France, region of Southeastern France. It is about 25 km (15.5 mi) long and up to 700 metres (0.4 mi) deep. It was formed by the Verdon (river), Verdon River, which is named for its turquoise-green colour, one of the location's distinguishing characteristics. In between the towns of Castellane and Moustiers-Sainte-Marie, the river has cut a ravine to a depth of 700 meters through the limestone mass. At the end of the canyon, the Verdon flows into the artificial Lake of Sainte-Croix. The gorge is very popular with tourists, who can drive around its rim, rent kayaks to travel on the river, or Hiking, hike. The limestone walls, which are several hundreds of metres high, attract many rock climbing, rock climbers. Verdon College
Verdon College is a co-educational Roman Catholic high school in Invercargill, New Zealand, teaching students from year 7 to 13 (ages 11–18). The College is named after Michael Verdon, Bishop Michael Verdon (1838–1918) who was the second Catholic Bishop of Roman Catholic Diocese of Dunedin, Dunedin (1896–1918). In 2023, 93.4% of Year 11 students achieved NCEA Level 1, 88.7% of Year 12 students achieved NCEA Level 2, and 44.3% of Year 13 students achieved NCEA Level 3. Vinon-sur-Verdon (; ) is a commune in the northwestern part of the Var department in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region in Southeastern France. The town is on the left bank of the river Verdon near the Gorges du Verdon. Le Verdon-sur-Mer
Le Verdon-sur-Mer (, ; ) is a commune in the Gironde department in Nouvelle-Aquitaine in southwestern France. History In the 11th century, the territory housed the priory of Saint-Nicholas de Grave, dependent on Cluny. It housed the monks in charge of maintaining the fire of Cordouan, off the mouth of the estuary. The priory is buried under the sands for an indefinite period. Until 1874, the town was dependent on the commune of Soulac. This year was also the year of the construction of the Bordeaux-Le Verdon railway line which would open up the town and envisage a future port. The railway line started from Bordeaux in 1868 and did not reach the town until 1875, with the Point de Grave being reached in 1902. Le Verdon was initially only a hamlet of Soulac which was a distance from Bourg, which had lived off salt production for a long period of time. Verdon, South Dakota
Verdon is a town in southeastern Brown County, South Dakota, United States. The population was 3 at the 2020 census. History Verdon was platted in 1886. It was named after the city of Verdun, France. A post office was established at Verdon in 1887, and remained in operation until being discontinued in 1982. Verdon was served by a branch of the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad between Doland and Groton. The line was abandoned in 1970, with the last passenger service to the town being in 1965. On January 12, 1888, a blizzard hit Verdon suddenly. Students in the township's school, located about a mile north of town along the railroad tracks, were stranded. A rescue party was organized and went to the school with a wagon set on the tracks. A human chain was formed and successfully ferried the students back to town safely on the wagon.
