Foley's
Foley's was a regional chain of department stores owned by Federated Department Stores (1947–1988, 2005–2006), later owned by May Department Stores (1988–2005) and headquartered in Downtown Houston, Texas. On August 30, 2005, the division was dissolved and operation of the stores was assumed by Federated's Macy's West and Macy's South divisions. Foley's operated stores in Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, Oklahoma, Texas and Louisiana. On September 9, 2006 Foley's and all the regional May Co. stores names were phased out and rebranded as Macy's. History This company was founded in 1900 by brothers Pat and James Foley, in Houston, Texas, as Foley Brothers. It was originally acquired by Federated Department Stores, Inc. in 1945. Macy's, Inc. (previously Federated Department Stores, Inc.) is an American holding company of department stores. Upon its establishment in 1929, Federated held ownership of the regional department store chains Abraham & Straus, Lazarus (department store), Lazarus, Filene's, and John Shillito Company, Shillito's. The acquisition of The May Department Stores Company by Federated Department Stores was announced on February 28, 2005, and was completed on August 30, 2005. May-owned regional department stores throughout the United States were converted to Federated-owned Macy's and Bloomingdale's stores by September 9, 2006. Filene's was an American department store chain founded in 1881 by William Filene. The historic Filene's Department Store in the Downtown Crossing district of Boston, Massachusetts housed the flagship store and headquarters, while branch stores operated throughout New England and New York. Filene's was a founding member of the Federated Department Stores holding company in 1929. It was acquired by The May Department Stores Company in 1988, and expanded with the mergers of G.
