The Florida State Seminoles men's basketball team represents Florida State University (variously Florida State or FSU) in the intercollegiate sport of basketball. The Seminoles compete in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I (NCAA), Division I and the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC). Though they have historically played under the shadow of the Florida State Seminoles football, football program, the Seminoles have had successes on the hardwood. National Invitation Tournament
The National Invitation Tournament (NIT) is an annual men's college basketball tournament operated by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). Since 2023, all rounds of the tournament are played at various sites across the country which are selected annually. From its founding in 1938 to 2022, the semifinals and finals were always played at Madison Square Garden (MSG) in New York City. Predating the NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament by one year, the NIT was considered the most prestigious post-season showcase for college basketball before its status was superseded in the mid-1950s by the NCAA tournament. 1992–93 Florida State Seminoles Men's Basketball Team
The 1992–93 Florida State Seminoles men's basketball team represented Florida State University as members of the Atlantic Coast Conference during the 1992–93 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. Led by head coach Pat Kennedy, and future NBA players Sam Cassell, Doug Edwards, Bob Sura, and Charlie Ward, the Seminoles reached the Elite Eight of the NCAA tournament. The team finished the season 25–10, 12–4 in ACC play to finish in second place. They lost in the quarterfinals of the ACC Tournament to Clemson. Joe Williams (1934 – March 26, 2022) was an American men's college basketball coach. He was the head coach at Jacksonville University from 1964 to 1970, Furman University from 1970 to 1978, and Florida State University from 1978 to 1986. Harry Davis (basketball)
Harry A. Davis (born January 27, 1957) is an American former basketball player who played for two seasons in the National Basketball Association (NBA) for the Cleveland Cavaliers and San Antonio Spurs. Davis, a 6'7 forward from Cathedral Latin High School in Cleveland, Davis played for coach Hugh Durham at Florida State University from 1974 to 1978. Davis scored 1,514 points in his career, averaging 14.0 points and 6.8 rebounds per game. His best year was 1977–78, where he averaged 19.5 points and 7.4 rebounds per game and was named Metro Conference co-player of the year with Louisville's Rick Wilson. David William Cowens ( ; born October 25, 1948) is an American former professional basketball player and NBA head coach. At , he played the center position and occasionally played power forward. Cowens spent most of his playing career with the Boston Celtics. He was the 1971 NBA Rookie of the Year and the 1973 NBA Most Valuable Player. Hugh Durham
Hugh Nelson Durham (born October 26, 1937) is a retired American basketball coach. He was head coach at Florida State, Georgia, and Jacksonville. He is the only head coach to have led two different programs to their first Final Four appearances.
