Flatt (landform)
''Schlatt'' or ''Flatt'' is the Lower Saxony, Lower Saxon name for a heathland pond, an undrained body of water usually shallow, that is fed by surface water and is largely unaffected by ground water. The water is impounded by a water-retentive layer. Most ''Schlatts'' can dry out from time to time. ''Schlatts'' are characteristic of the nutrient-poor geest (topography), geest ridges of the North German Plain. Most of them were formed as wind-blown hollows in the periglacial region of the Weichselian Glaciation, last ice age. The term is of Lower Saxon origin and is used mainly for the ponds in that part of Germany. In the district of Landkreis Diepholz, Diepholz (Lower Saxony) the Conservation Foundation (''Stiftung Naturschutz'') has taken upon itself the preservation of ''Schlatts'' as part of a ''Schlatt'' programme. John Ira Flatt
John Ira Flatt (July 2, 1834 – November 26, 1913) was an Ontario farmer, merchant and political figure. He represented Wentworth North in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario from 1894 to 1898 as a Liberal member. He was born in East Flamborough, Wentworth County, Upper Canada in 1834, the son of Robert Flatt, a Scottish immigrant. Flatt was involved in the timber trade, partnering with Robert Thompson until 1876 and then with a Mr. Bradley. The firm, originally based in the Hamilton area, later opened a branch at Casselman. Lester Raymond Flatt (June 19, 1914 – May 11, 1979) was an American bluegrass (music), bluegrass guitarist and mandolinist, best known for his collaboration with banjo picker Earl Scruggs in the duo Flatt and Scruggs. Flatt's career spanned multiple decades, breaking out as a member of Bill Monroe's band during the 1940s and including multiple solo and collaboration works exclusive of Scruggs. He first reached a mainstream audience through his performance on "The Ballad of Jed Clampett", the theme for the network television series ''The Beverly Hillbillies'', in the early 1960s. Rachael Elizabeth Flatt (born July 21, 1992) is an American former competitive figure skater. She is the 2008 World Junior champion, a winner of four silver medals on the Grand Prix series, and the 2010 U.S. national champion. She was nominated to represent the United States at the 2010 Winter Olympics and placed 7th. She is a 2015 graduate of Stanford University.
