The township's original extent was reduced when the city of Finlayson was incorporated and separated from it. Finlayson Township was named for David Finlayson, the owner of a local sawmill. Finlayson (formerly known as Näsi) is a neighbourhood in the city center of Tampere, Finland, and as the name implies, it consists of the old factory area of Finlayson, as well as Näsinpuisto, the Mustanlahti harbor area and the residential blocks delimited by Hämeenpuisto and Satakunnankatu. To the east, the area borders Tammerkoski. Area attractions include Tallipiha and Finlayson Church. There are also three palace buildings in the district: Näsilinna (''Näsi Castle''), Finlayson Palace (''Finlaysonin palatsi'') and Pikkupalatsi (''Little Palace''). The area starts at Näsilinnankatu and Kuninkaankatu, which extend to Nalkala, and Puuvillatehtaankatu and Näsijärvenkatu, which cross Hämeenpuisto. Finlayson Island
Finlayson Island is an island along the course of the North Saskatchewan River in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan. The island is situated between the town of Battleford on the south bank of the river and the city of North Battleford on the north. To the north of the island is the Battlefords Bridge and to the south is North Saskatchewan River's confluence with Battle River. Access to Finlayson Island is from the old Battleford Bridge. On the island is the Finlayson Island Nature Park, a picnic area, and multiple biking and hiking trails. During the winter, the trails are groomed for cross-country skiing. The island has riparian forests, marshlands, grasslands, and sand dunes as well as an abundance of wildlife. Finlayson Island was named after Donald Finlayson on 25 March 1965 by the Government of Saskatchewan. Finlayson Islands
The Finlayson Islands are a string of Canadian arctic islands in Nunavut, Canada. The group lies in Dease Strait, approximately from Cape Alexander, south of Victoria Island and north of the mainland's Kent Peninsula. The community of Cambridge Bay is approximately to the east. An early survey was made by Sir Richard Collinson on board the ''Enterprise'' during his search for Sir John Franklin's lost expedition. Collinson noted the islands to be a basalt ridge running south-southeast. The largest measures long by wide. Colonies of Thayer's gull and glaucous gull are located on one of the larger islands. Baby Face Finlayson is a fictional character in a comic strip in the UK comic ''The Beano'', first appearing in issue 1553, dated 22 April 1972. Baby Face Finlayson "The Cutest Bandit in the West" is an outlaw from the American Old West, and is, in fact, a baby. His name is derived from the real-life American gangster of the 1930s Baby Face Nelson (real name Lester Joseph Gillis). Publication history He was originally a minor character in Little Plum, but was later given a spin-off strip of his own. He rode around in a motorised pram, stealing everything that wasn't tied down, whilst shouting "Yuk Yuk!".
