Femmes algériennes pour un changement vers l'égalité (''Algerian women for a change towards equality'') or FACE is a women's organisation created during the 2019 Algerian "Hirak" protests and credited with the invention of the "feminist square", a part of the Friday Hirak protests held in front of Algiers 1 University. Creation A declaration establishing the ''Femmes algériennes pour un changement vers l'égalité'' was signed on 16 March 2019 by Saadia Gacem and Faïka Medjahed, members of the , , Habiba Djahnine and sixteen other women. 2019 Algerian Protests
The 2019–2021 Algerian protests, also called Revolution of Smiles or Hirak (), began on 16 February 2019, six days after Abdelaziz Bouteflika announced his candidacy for a fifth presidential term in a signed statement. These protests, without precedent since the Algerian Civil War, were peaceful and led the military to insist on Bouteflika's immediate resignation, which took place on 2 April 2019. By early May, a significant number of power-brokers close to the deposed administration, including the former president's younger brother Saïd Bouteflika, Saïd, had been arrested. Habiba Djahnine is an Algerian film producer of particularly documentary films, curator of international film festivals, writer, essayist and feminist. Life Djahnine was born in 1968 in Tizi Ouzou. 2019 Algerian Presidential Election
Presidential elections were held in Algeria on 12 December 2019. The election had originally been scheduled for 18 April, but was postponed due to 2019 Algerian protests, sustained weekly protests against plans by the incumbent president Abdelaziz Bouteflika to run for a fifth term. Bouteflika resigned on 2 April and Abdelkader Bensalah was elected acting president by parliament a week later. On 10 April the election was rescheduled for 4 July. Abdelmadjid Tebboune (; born 17 November 1945) is an Algerian politician currently serving as the president of Algeria since December 2019 and as minister of defence.
