1987 Campeonato Brasileiro Série A
The 1987 Campeonato Brasileiro Série A was the 31st edition of the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A, better known as Campeonato Brasileiro. In 1987, the CBF was going through a serious financial crisis, and on 7 July 7, the CBF announced that it was unable to organize a national championship. The CBF attempted to find a sponsor to fund the competition, but was unsuccessful, so they were forced to hold a regional event. As a result, the thirteen main clubs in Brazil, (Clube dos 13) decided to create a new championship, with the name of Copa União, by which it was known, but had the official name of Copa Brasil. The competition was divided by CBF in modules: the Green Module won by Flamengo and with Internacional runner-up; the Yellow Module, of which the champion was Sport and vice-champion Guarani. Champions and runners up of those two modules were to form the final quadrangular. The Blue and White modules formed the equivalent of the Série B. Flamengo and Internacional, champio ...

Camaragibe
Camaragibe is a city in the Northeast region of Brazil, in the state of Pernambuco. It lies within the Greater Recife — Brazil's 5th-largest metropolitan area. Currently, Camaragibe is run by Nadegi Queiroz (from the political party Republicanos) and Délio Junior (The Vice-mayor). The lands now belonging to the city were used as a reserve of wood, and then for sugar planting. It was populated by natives, until the arrival of Portuguese with Duarte Coelho Pereira, around 1500. After the Portuguese arrival, however, the natives were not completely driven from the area. In the 16th century, the city (then just an engenho) was considered one of the richest in the region until the Dutch invasion in 1645. At that time, the farm was burned to the ground by the natives. On 13 May 1982, Camaragibe, which was then part of the bigger city São Lourenço da Mata, was elevated to the category of city. The small city is considered among the most densely populated urban areas in the ...

Campeonato Brasileiro Série C
The Campeonato Brasileiro Série C, commonly known as the Série C or the Brazilian Série C to distinguish it from the Italian Serie C, is the third tier of the Brazilian football league system. Unlike the first and second divisions, the Série C is not played in a double round robin system, arguably because many participating teams lack the financial conditions to travel long distances. Thus, the tournament is organized in regional groups and the table prevents teams from distant states from playing each other in the initial rounds. Beginning in 2009, the Série C was reduced from 64 teams to 20 and the new Campeonato Brasileiro Série D is the qualifier for Brazilian league football. In its current format the first phase was then played in a single round, with 19 matches. The top eight teams qualify for a knock out stage and the four semi-finalists are Promotion and relegation, promoted to the Campeonato Brasileiro Série B. The four lowest-placed teams are relegated to the ...

2008 Copa Do Brasil
The Copa do Brasil 2008 was the 20th staging of the Copa do Brasil, starting on February 13, 2008 and finishing on June 11, 2008. It was played by 64 teams, either qualified through their respected state championships (54) or by the CBF Rankings (10). The clubs that played the Copa Libertadores 2008 didn't participate in the Copa do Brasil 2008 because of scheduling problems. It was won by Sport-PE. Format The tournament was played in two-legged knockout stages. In the first two rounds the away team automatically goes through to the next round if they beat the home team by a 2-goal difference or more in the first leg. The away goals rule was used in the Copa do Brasil, which is an unusual feature when compared to other South American competitions. For example, the Copa Libertadores did not adopt this rule until 2005. Copa do Brasil is an opportunity for teams from smaller states to play against the big teams and episodes of giant-killing have happened at a regular rate throughou ...
