The Faculty of Humanities, Charles University () is a faculty of Charles University in Prague, Czech Republic. Located in Libeň, Prague 8, the faculty has about 220 internal employers and 3250 students. It is a member of the ECOLAS, European Colleges of Liberal Arts and Sciences. History The Faculty of Humanities is the youngest faculty of Charles University. Founded as the Institute for Liberal Education () in 1994, the faculty gained full academic autonomy in 2000. The first dean of the faculty was the former Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports (Czech Republic), Minister of Education Jan Sokol (philosopher), Jan Sokol. Sokol ran for President of the Czech Republic in the 2003 Czech presidential election, 2003 election but lost to Václav Klaus. He was replaced in 2007 by Ladislav Benyovszky. In higher education, a comprehensive examination (or comprehensive exam or exams), often abbreviated as "comps", is a specific type of examination that must be completed by graduate students in some disciplines and courses of study, and also by undergraduate students in some institutions and departments. ECTS-credits
The European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS) is a standard means for comparing academic credits, i.e., the "volume of learning based on the defined learning outcomes and their associated workload" for higher education across the European Union and other collaborating European countries. For successfully completed studies, ECTS credits are awarded. One academic year corresponds to 60 ECTS credits that are normally equivalent to 1500–1800 hours of total workload, irrespective of standard or qualification type. ECTS credits are used to facilitate transfer and progression throughout the Union. Intellectual history (also the history of ideas) is the study of the history of human thought and of intellectuals, people who conceptualization, conceptualize, discuss, write about, and concern themselves with ideas. Contemporary History
Contemporary history, in English-language historiography, is a subset of modern history that describes the historical period from about 1945 to the present. In the social sciences, contemporary history is also continuous with, and related to, the rise of postmodernity.
