FIS Alpine World Ski Championships 2011 – Men's Downhill
The Men's Downhill competition at the 2011 World Championships at Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany, was the fourth race of the championships, run under spring-like conditions on Saturday, February 12. Canada's Erik Guay won the gold medal, Didier Cuche of Switzerland took the silver, and the bronze medalist was Christof Innerhofer of Italy. Mostly in the shade, the north-facing slope of the Kandahar 2 course at Garmisch Classic was in length, with a vertical drop of from a starting elevation of above sea level. Andrej "Jerry" Jerman, (born 30 September 1978), is a retired World Cup alpine ski racer from Slovenia. Born in Tržič, then in SFR Yugoslavia, Jerman specialized in the speed events of downhill and super G. He gained his first World Cup victory at Garmisch-Partenkirchen in February 2007 in a downhill, the first-ever for Slovenia. The next day he finished second, again in the downhill. Until then, his best World Cup result was fourth place in a downhill at Bormio, two months earlier. Jerman later gathered his second victory at Bormio, and finished his career with four World Cup podiums, all in downhill, and 27 top tens, with 18 in downhill. Johannes "Hannes" Reichelt (born 5 July 1980) is a retired Austrian World Cup alpine ski racer. He competed mainly in downhill and super-G, as well as in giant slalom. Biography Born in Altenmarkt im Pongau in Salzburg, Reichelt made his World Cup debut in December 2001. He made his first podium in December 2002 and won his first World Cup race, a super-G, in December 2005. Peter Fill (born 12 November 1982) is a former World Cup alpine ski racer from northern Italy. Born in Brixen, South Tyrol, he formerly competed in all disciplines, and later focused on the speed events of downhill, super-G, and combined. Fill won the World Cup season title in downhill in 2016 and in 2017, and the combined title in 2018. Career Fill is an all-round skier. In the 2007 season, Fill was among the overall leaders for the overall World Cup title, the first Italian since Alberto Tomba to rank in the overall top ten. Steven Nyman (born February 12, 1982) is a World Cup alpine ski racer on the U.S. Ski Team. Formerly a slalom skier, he is now a speed specialist, with a main focus on downhill. Born in Provo, Utah, Nyman raced at Sundance as a junior until making a move to Park City in 1999. Silvan Zurbriggen (born 15 August 1981) is a retired Swiss World Cup alpine ski racer who competed primarily in downhill and combined, and occasionally in super-G. In 2012, he stopped competing in slalom due to poor results. Born in Brig, Valais, Zurbriggen represented Switzerland in seven world championships and two Olympics.
