FHSAA's All-Century Team
The Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) is a not-for-profit organization designated by the Florida Legislature as the governing organization to regulate all interscholastic activities of high schools in Florida. It is a member of the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS). Florida uses the contest rules set by the NFHS in its sports. History The Florida High School Athletic Association was founded on April 9, 1920, by a group of 29 high school principals which met on the University of Florida campus in Gainesville, Florida, Gainesville. The organization was founded as the Florida High School Athletic Association. The name was changed to Florida High School Activities Association in 1951. The name was changed back to Florida High School Athletic Association in 2002. The Florida Interscholastic Athletic Association (FIAA) was created to provide competition by Black schools. Plant City High School
The Plant City High School is a public high school in Plant City, Florida, United States and is part of the Hillsborough County Public Schools. The current school building was completed in 1972 on Maki Road, now called Raider Place. History The original school is located at 605 North Collins Street. It was built in 1914 and designed by Tampa-based architect Willis R. Biggers. The original building now houses a community center and historical society and was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places on February 4, 1981. School In May 2006, Plant City High School was recognized as one of the top 1000 high schools in America by Newsweek magazine. Pensacola High School
Pensacola High School is a secondary school located near downtown Pensacola, Florida, United States. The school celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2001 and graduated its 100th class of seniors in 2005; however, the school has not always been at its current location. It was moved to Maxwell Street in 1952. In 1969, a fire gutted the previous school building on Lee Square, prompting its demolition. Currently, it is the oldest secondary school in Pensacola. The school is part of the Escambia County School District. A former principal, Norm Ross, is the deputy superintendent of schools for the county. Orlando High School
Orlando High School was a high school located in Orlando, Florida, United States. History The first high school class, which was composed of 11 students, met in the second story of a frame schoolhouse graduated in 1892. In 1921 the school was relocated to a red brick building designed by Frederick H. Trimble on North Parramore Avenue. In 1952, Orlando High School closed, with students being split to two new schools, which were to be named North Orlando High School and South Orlando High School. On the final day of classes at OHS, the principal, William Boone, died of a heart attack at his desk, after serving 31 years as the school's only principal at that location. Ocala High School
Forest High School is a school near Ocala, Florida, United States. It has an EMIT (engineering) program. The school's colors are green and gold and the school mascot is the Wildcat. As of 2014, it had an enrollment of some 2,058. Forest High School moved to its current location on Maricamp Road, southeast of the city limits of Ocala, in 2005. The school was originally on Fort King Street in Ocala, at the 1959 campus of Ocala High School. Prior to 1965, the school was School integration in the United States, for white students only. Leesburg High School (Leesburg, Florida)
Leesburg High School is a public high school located in Leesburg, Florida, United States, and is one of seven public high schools in Lake County, Florida. The school is made up of approximately 1,500 students. The current principal is Andrea Pyatt. History Leesburg High School was established in 1926. For 42 years, it served white students only. After the federal government mandated integration, African-American children who had previously attended Carver Heights High School and Lake County Training School were reassigned to Leesburg High School in 1968. Some of the faculty from the black schools were retained, usually with reduced responsibilities. Carver Heights was repurposed as a middle school.
